The mysteries of garlic, an inquiring mind wants to know!!

Alliums and strawberries make wonderful bed mates.
I sometimes grow onions up the middle of my strawberries for that reason.

Thanks for the hints and tips, I have just about grown enough garlic to last me a year (and if I'd managed to get the 2nd lot in in the autumn not spring I would have) but not for replanting yet so will have to up production this year so I have enough for my own planting as well!

My garlic crop this year is totally awesome! Last year, GD and I sat for an hour or more, and peeled a bunch of cloves from the bulbil generated plants, and I froze those. Still have more than 1/2 of them left. It's great to just pull a few out of the freezer without having to prep them.

How do they thaw......still need to chop/slice/mince tho?

I slice some thin and dry them, make garlic powder or rough chop.

Garlic can also be preserved long term in olive oil, or pickled. Do some research regarding safe preservation with these methods. I have yet to do either. I've been told that if you "pickle" garlic, it does not have a vinegar flavor if you rinse the cloves before use. I do find that if I have it already prepped in the freezer, I'm more apt to use "fresh" rather than reaching for the "garlic powder" bought from the health food store.
