(Barnacles and cracks??? On the Quicksilver??? Vhanya would rather be caught dead than with barnacles on her beloved ship 😭

(Muskets and flintlocks abound! Especially in Pirate’s Cove)

Vhanya couldn’t help but feel a grin beginning to hint at her lips as dawn sunlight spilled out from sea mists over the docks; sending sparkles over the shining waxed decks of the Quicksilver, and setting aglow the soft edges of feathery wings and hair of her new crew—her crew! Once again, Captain Vhanya Marriott had a crew, and she was as giddy and light as a schoolgirl caught awhirl in first love.

Ember was as obstinate and fiery as a mule, Lichen was shrill and entitled despite her somewhat scrappy appearance, Galen looked positively weary to the bone, the greasy Phoenix could only be described as cripplingly naive, and there was a very strong chance the other two had recently escaped a mental institution.

Vhanya had dealt with worse, she could make it work - she always made it work.

With the feeling of fresh confidence leaving a spring to her step, Vhanya turned to the possibly deranged Harpy man.
“You may join my crew, but understand if I catch you stepping out of line I’ll have your corpse fed to the gulls and alley-cats.”
Without looking in his direction, she jabbed a clawed finger towards the cowled fellow. “And you; you may stay around until we set sail. I’d advise you find a way to make yourself useful and slightly less… eerie.”

She looked up just as Ember‘s wings clapped open and she took to the crow’s nest. Something was amiss, Vhanya new to trust Ember’s sixth sense more than her own.
To add to the oddness of the Harpy’s sudden flight, one of Vhanya’s non-supernatural senses was nagging her. A faint.. scent? And one not entirely unlike that of the large, shaggy herding dogs she frequently saw during her times in Neustadt.

Gecko fluttered his wings. No worry, he thought. Once out at sea, there'd be no alley-cats for miles around. She'd only have the gulls to feed, and he could probably befriend them beforehand. No bother, acting out of line wasn't his intentions. He planned on doing his best.
"No need of unda-standing. I'm-a watching my steps," he said with the confidence of a fool. Gecko turned on a heel and walked to the side of the ship. His nerves quivered with excitement. If there wasn't possible on-lookers, he would have leaped into the air and did a back-flip as he hooted his joy. He drew in a deep breath. Perhaps that would calm his excitement before he made a fool of himself. The salty air burned his nostrils. A familiar scent of the forest caught Gecko' attention. That wasn't right. He hadn't smelt anything to do with the forest since he had entered Pirate’s Cove. He smelled the air further. A wolf, he guessed. No, not likely, especially in a populated place such as this. They never went near humans or Harpies. He passed the scent off as only a memory of his old dwellings and crossed over to the other side of the ship.

Jintao often stared at the distant horizon. He wanted to fool himself with the words Tay had been speaking to him the past couple of weeks, so he tried to look at the faraway ships as sailing in freedom, not bondage. He allowed his mind to drift in places he had tried to forget. The open waters with nothing but horizon for scenery, the gentle breeze that could rage at any given moment, and the sea creatures splashing for droppings below would feel like a dream whenever he'd pause to breathe it all in. He had forgotten about those good times as the terror and excitement took over in the midst of an attack. And now, the screams and horrors of innocent crews meeting their fateful endings filled his nightmares whenever he looked back. It wasn't always like this. To put a trespassing ship to its cruel end was something he had once lived for.
Jintao switched his gaze to Tay. Here he was, with her, far from where he was supposed to be, and now looking for a crew that may be like his previous, or worst, the innocent. He smiled a little, but it was fake. His fears were still there and he needed to rid himself of them.
Tay quickened her pace, Jintao lengthened his strides.
"I'll play the cards tonight and get us a gig." She pushed her hair back and look up at him. "Stay close, right? You're our..." She winced and glanced to the side, smiling a rueful expression, "You are my ticket to joining a half decent crew." She looked back and watched the moon in his eyes. "Act, yah?"

The soldier keeled over, letting out a pathetic gasp as the knee drove into his stomach, the silver blade flashing greedily under the overhanging shadow of the buildings, expensive fabric ripping.
Pirate's Cove was no stranger to illicit activity. Bold Mythics sulked around its streets, the mix of Rebels and Loyalists slipping in and out of the town, creating a silent war zone, accompanied by rogue pirates and thieves filtering in and out daily from the sea. It wasn't too rare to find the King's rabble tossed somewhere in the chaotic mix, and even less so to find them dead, mysteriously murdered, or fallen victim to some "accident".
Nautalis shoved the dead weight against the wall, letting the body slump undignified before tossing the soldier's crimson blade beside its owner. She pressed her side against the cold bricks, shoving the sea-green cloth back over her shoulder, sucking deep breaths through the smell of seaweed and salt as her pounding heart slowly calmed.
A long, tense moment passed, she kept her body leaning heavily against the solid wall, her focus channeling to the sound of boots thumping faintly on the boardwalk. She waited for the sound to falter, the steady footsteps stopping or slowing.
Slowly, the woman stepped off the solid street and onto the frigid, rotten wood. Her exposed feet padded the sound of her steps to near silence; She quickened the pace, keeping well behind the odd pair.
What a fool. The young woman didn't seem bothered enough to hide her face- it was a miracle only one other assassin had been following them. But why send a skilled soldier after a thief? Her companion was probably more important, and here they both were. Exposed and alone.
Nautalis slowed again, sliding her hands into her baggy pockets as she fixed her gaze on the ground, listening intently.

Jintao smiled for real this time and with a hidden chuckle. "I guess I'm not that useless after all," he half teased.
He looked over his shoulder in habit. The glimpse of movement caught his eye and his smile disappeared. Leaning toward Tay, he said, "Let's get somewhere more open, eh?"

Her eyes flicked over his expression, and a small scoff escaped her lips.
"Then we'll both be killed."

The moon threw her shadow long and far as she hurried across the sturdy, dampened docks. Gulls fled when she passed, waiting until the last second to rise and lift silent into the night.
She could not appear more perfectly obvious.
The boats thumped in discordant sounds. Hollow on the docking supports, ships sent occasional tremors through each land-leading plank. Tay felt the vessels jostle beneath her boots and discerned each desynchronized step Jintao fell on. His heels hit first and his toe came slapping down, a gait of awkward fashion.
The docks were tangled and woven into a system of nerves, carrying emotions of vibration through each board. She'd forgotten the comfort of prediction.
Tay pulled her hair forward and squared her shoulders. Light poured from beneath the docks ahead, marking the slums with ironic warmth. She stood still for a moment, listening to the docks and Jintao.
The night was tense and those who roamed would wield savage agendas.
She brushed the sand from her dress, grinding her palms across the damp fabric, giving Jintao a last preparing glance.

"I guess if that's how you see it," he muttered more to himself than her. His nerves were on edge. He glanced over his shoulder again. The ships they had passed enveloped the dock with their dark shadows. Someone was there, hiding from his view, following them.
"The way I see it, is if we're out in the open, the shadow-lurking dancers won't come out come out to dance." Tay stopped to his displeasure. He fixed his gaze on the dark surroundings behind him. "Don't you think we should keep going?" His tone was growing unusually sharp as only the feeling of being threatened without defense might cause. He nearly missed Tay's glance before she looked away. Oh, he thought, easing himself. He returned a look that said he was ready. He'd probably apologize for his growing impatience later. For now, he needed to chill his anxiety and focus on what was ahead.

She took the stairs, decending to the small, stinking ground. Seaweed marred the shore, a product of recent rains.
Folks would hail them to a table if they walked out in front of the short tavern. They did not need to sneak in. A statement could be made here and safety maintained.
"Calm down." She said as they walked the beach, approaching the lights and dull voices. "You caught sight of one tag-along, and now," she waved her hand towards his form in a careless gesture, "you are tight. Relax. You're composure in more easily read than a book."
And since that was true, she could tell that it wasn't only the tag-along forcing on him an air of anxiety.

Name: Lupin
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Species: Werewolf
Physical Appearance: When human, she is taller and stockier than average, with strong arms and a robust build. She has long red-brown hair, usually pulled back in an intricate ponytail. She is proud of her appearance and makes efforts to look nice, but often ends up muddy and sweaty from hunting runs through the forest. She has unique sage-green eyes, slightly sharper-than-average canines, and strong, thick fingernails. (As a wolf, she is also very large and strong, with thick reddish-brown fur, a luxurious tail, and green eyes. She has bigger paws and a short snout, plus a wide chest and large lungs for running long distances.)
Personality: She has a HUGE temper and a strong sense of justice. Often, if she is lied to, she will explode with anger. She's a sincere person, and never lies or cheats. However, this often gets her into trouble, because she doesn't withhold her werewolf status. She also is very strong, able to lift heavy weights and items, and prefers her fists over any other weapon.
Backstory (optional): Lupin was bitten very young by a rogue werewolf, and was thrown out by her parents when they discovered. She now lives in the forest, where she hunts, fishes, and traps the creatures there. She will also trade/sell items she acquires in the forest (including food she has caught). Several times over the years, she has run into her mother and father, who have never recognized her, and she typically will do something out of spite to them (the rare occasion she will act unkindly unprovoked.) She is talented in the smithy but does not enjoy it, and her favorite place is the thick forest and the endless sea, for reasons no one seems to understand. (Wolf+ocean= ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) (although wolves are AMAZING swimmers)

Shadow lurking dancers... never heard that one before.
The young man was radiating with tension, his pace suddenly uneven, head on a swivel as he glanced anxiously back across the dark pier.
Nautalis slid beneath the ancient railing lining the boardwalk, gripping the rough wood and swinging over the edge of the weathered planks. She felt carefully for footholds among the crusted supports of the dock, descending to the soft sand beneath and dropping silently the last couple of feet to the ground.
The sounds of the boots on the wood echoed loudly from beneath, moonlight providing faint shadows that followed the noise, silhouetting beneath the gaps in the planks. The ocean wind gusted sharply, flipping chunks of dried seaweed up on end like tiny flags weighted by the sand.
The pair descended the stairs to the shore, the young woman's voice swept away by the crisp breeze wafting off the frigid water. Nautalis clung to the shade of the boardwalk, assuming- or hoping- that the moonlight off the sand would provide enough of a glare to mask her from sight. They were aware of her presence now, to some extent, but they'd made the mistake of coming closer to the water. The familiar feeling of damp sand was steadily building to her confidence.
