-The Mythics RP-

(Good gracious, you are a body language queen right now-)
"At least I'm hitting," a wild excitement pulsed in her eyes as she drove her knee towards his abdomen, wincing as toes twisted in her grounded leg.
Jintao couldn’t help but think the same. This was his left- the very hand he never used in battle except for a show of style with two blades, which on that, he rarely did. He moved to the side, almost as though her move was expected.
"Oh-h," he caught the move out of the corner of his eye. "Playing dirty, are we?"
He spun with his back against hers and brought his blade up once on the other side of her. The move would have been well if he was using right, but on left, the move was useless. It took longer for his blade to meet hers, thus giving her the upper hand.

Her hand swung like a flail, the knife jutting out backwards, and it sent Jintao's blade fast into the ceiling, skittering across the floor.
Her feet stumbled back, breath heavy, a sound erected by adrenaline. She swallowed, regret playing at her heart.
What a foolish blow.
A moment passed, and she thrust her knife in offering to Jintao, eyes averted and blinking.
Impulse danced in her blood. She wanted to keep fighting the one-armed man, without offering him a weapon, but also sensed his hesitant excitement, and took heed of the way he was still collecting his awaking abilities.
"Take it." She breathed, finally looking up. Sweat broke apart her curls.
His gaze drew shame in her mind.
"I will not be so foolish again. But don't play with me, Jintao. I do not desire to fight you as a gentle, hesitant old man."

(Dude, it would take me decades to write a book. I am s-sssoo ssu-sshu-ssulloowwwauuuahhh.)

Tay's abrupt move came as almost shock to Jintao. He stood there, basically a fool himself, staring at the sudden change of Tay.
Snap out of it, idiot, he took a breath. This is what a fight was all about. It shouldn't have come to him as a surprise. And now, if this was in a battle, they'd be both dead, starting with someone stabbing him in the back. Jintao took a step to collect his blade, more angry with himself than Tay.
Tay held out her own. Her face no longer shown with excitement, but bore a troubling look.  Abuse, Jintao questioned, though it was not his place to ask. His eyes lowered to her knife, it trembling with her hand. Letting out a sigh, he took a step back. It was a wrong move for someone in his rank, but he couldn't move forward.
"No," he said, slowly shaking his head. She was fast, for whatever the reason, and his moment of 'play' came more like a threat to her. "Keep it. You did well."
He gave Tay her space and swooped up the dagger. He twisted it in his hand, noting how well it was holding up. Giving Tay a quick glance, he knew their 'practice' session was done. If he continued now, with the state Tay was in, and with little skill himself, he was likely to lose his other hand, if not more than that.
"We can continue to dance, or we could do so after I see what the Captain wants. You decide." The statement was suggesting the latter, though should it be chosen, Jintao wasn’t planning on returning to it tonight. Besides, Cyprus would probably be down here by the time he returned, so they couldn't practice anyway.

Tay still maintained her extended arm.
"I did not mean we should end." She sighed, gaze warying. "It would do you little benefit to stop. I am not an equal match, and my participance is riddled with the form of a savage. Nothing I do is parallel to you etiquette."
The knife leaned on the knuckle of her forefinger, shaking as she breathed.
"What foe will come at you with the ease of your pace in this moment? None, I should think." Tay flipped the knife through so that it rested on her thumb. "My defense is leagues farther along than offense. I've done nothing but defend my entire life."
She fisted the knife and let her arm drop. "And I am weak and small, and we share no commonplace in sword-ability."
The knife was whirling again, sent through shivering knuckles, round through each blurred finger.
"I do not care what you do, but if we are to continue this, you must let yourself surpass my small skill." Her eyes stared at Jintao's blade. "Awake your agility now, and you will not have to suffer the embarrassment of relearning such simple technique before your peers."

Jintao gave a slight nod. Like always, her words stung with truth. He had been out of the fight too long and his depression stole much more skill than the Royal who ordered the removal of his arm. This wasn't who he was, and yet, he had embraced it until Tay came along, teasing him with her good sense to be more than who he had become.
Jintao's fingers tightened on the dagger's handle. The sting of raw skin sent tickles through his wrist. He loosened the grip. He couldn't fight. Or at least, his soul told him not too. Continuing with Tay would only get him killed. He tightened his grip once again. Did that truly matter? If he didn't continue, someone else would have the honor.
Tay fiddled with her blade, her eyes dull with her past. No, Jintao's whole being seemed to warn, but if a fight was going to end poorly for him, he'd rather it be with Tay than anyone else. They were here alone anyway, and here was much better than the prying eyes of the Quartermistress.
Jintao stepped forward, trying his grip on the dagger. "We shall continue then," he held the blade ready for contact, "but note this: should I fail to you, they will execute you for my rank. Escape before my body hits the floor, even if you have to swim to shore."
