-The Mythics RP-

Her despise for Jintao only grew.
How dare he disregard her so vigorously, belittle and undermine her, yet shrivel at the arrival of a tired old man. Yes, she too could feel the demanding calm of Cyrus's presence, a presence that rang too familiar against her plated dark heart. But she could have turned Jintao to ashes then and there if she wished. How dare he.
Threats weren't enough. Honest shows of skill and power weren't enough. Ember had something far more effective set aside. And Jinato would pay dearly at the hands of it.
"I truly do not know."
She lowered the blade, spinning it in a skilled hand to grasp it with the blade pointed back. She did not remove her tracking gaze from the first mate.
"I misunderstood nothing- I heard a commotion and felt a disturbance. When I found Lyra's life being threatened I stepped up to preserve her. And then-"
She'd play this advantage savagely. Ember jerked a nod toward Jintao.
"-I asked for an explanation as you did, and received only more threats. But of course...'
She cocked her head toward the older man.
"Now that things have settled, there is more opening for answers."
Lies, lies, lies, Jintao's grip tightened on the dagger, well hidden in his pocket. Feelings weren't to be shown here. If they were, he'd never be allowed to live them down. He kept his calm and dignity as a means to control the situation, even if it went unnoticed by the one he hoped to win the favor of.
Ember's act was enough to tease. An old memory told him it was a Phoenix thing. They viewed themselves as better than everyone and loved to prove it with their prideful actions. Showoffs, that's all they are. Failures in everything else.
Ember's tone of false innocence disgusted Jintao and her fancy wording would have been treated with mockery, had this ship been the Destruction. 'Received only more threats,' Jintao wanted to break out in malicious laughter, if not insult her mere existence. He had told her to back down and that he would too. The only reason why he didn't back down first was his knowledge that she could take the opportunity to end him.
Jintao bought back his eye contact with the man. He was ashamed for what he had done to Tay, but refusing to be killed by one who wasn't welcomed in his quarters was another thing. The Phoenix had panicked, entered a room that she didn't have permission to enter- regardless of her rank, and intruded on a situation that she was clueless about. All of which, if his actions were truly called for, could land her punishment. Foolishness, the Destruction would have had fun with this one.
Jintao stood silently, waiting for the man to speak, that is, if Lyra didn't speak first. He hoped that his discernment on the man's wisdom would be correct, and that the man would see right through the Phoenix's pathetic act. Anything less could end in his own punishment, and any such punishment that could come would be sure to be less dignifying than dying at the hands of the foolhardy Quartermistress.
Bailey lowered his head, looking between the three of them through narrowed eyes.
Neither of the officers could be described as forthcoming, and the girl had yet to speak.
He regarded each of them as guilty in some way. Such blight should be cut out before it festers.
He stepped back to flank the open door, “all of you, to the captain’s quarters.”
Again, Bailey stared firmly at each of them, mouth pressed to a thin line. They wouldn’t leave Vin’s cabin until the truth came to light. He wouldn’t see liars walking with falsehoods still at their lips.

Ember was shocked to find herself relieved at the elder's order. Reassured and reproved, all the same, she gave him a respectful nod, sliding the knife back into its place in her belt and hugging her wings in tight as she slipped past, out of the cabin.
Do not give this man undue credit, she scolded herself, the thought bringing the dignified tilt of her head back in slight. He is reasonable enough to recognize, but he is not the Professor. Let him prove himself worthy, or you'd find yourself groveling at his feet like this so-called "first mate."
She waited against the wall for the others to follow, refusing to acknowledge the comfort of being pressed in shadows.

Jintao's stomach twisted in a tight knot, complete with the jarring pain as though a knife had been stabbed inside. The Captain's quarters was the last place he wanted this situation to be brought to. He was fine with it settling here and him slipping out like it never happened. And now, with the Captain involved, punishment was sure to follow.
The Captain, as much as he mentally down-graded her for her quick set of positions, would most likely find him at fault and punish him accordingly. For simple, she may knock him down in rank. For an example, like the Destruction tended to love, public lashings were sure to follow.
As Ember walked past, Jintao's gaze fell upon Tay. How could of he acted so quickly? He may have been correct about her, and as so, should it be revealed and Vhanya be in on it, this would surely result in his death. Keel-hauling, that's one thing the Destruction never did until after he had left, but he doubted that the Quicksilver would oppose it so much.
Jintao's grip loosened from his dagger, leaving the handle to warm itself. His right sleeve was no longer tucked away in his pocket, revealing to Cyrus that he was indeed, only one-handed. Does that even matter anymore? he tucked it back into his pocket, once again giving it the illusion that there was an arm inside. Should his punishment be anything besides a lowered rank, the forced removal of his coat would show where he was lacking. That, and his thin weight, he reminded himself.
"Yes, sir," Jintao nodded, ensuring his hat was positioned well enough to conceal himself from prying eyes. He went to the door, stopping to take one last look at Tay. His eyes were full of guilt- guilt he would have never felt if Tay had been anyone else. He left the room, giving Ember her space, though watching for the glimmer of knife or pistol. He squared his shoulders, awaiting Cyrus to lead the way.

What is Tay's crew-member title?
(Lyra.
Tay scratched an unruly sign into the parchment, then stepped back and tossed the pen to the table.
"Handle that well, now," she said, nodding to the contract. "It'll be worth money someday." She leaned toward Jintao, casting him a crippled sort-of look. "If not for only my signature, then for marking the historical moment Lyra royally screwed up the remainder of her grandiose life. Take a breather, mate." She shook her head in a gentle way. "Don't be the source of issue."
