The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Aoxa - great snow photos! Its a wonderful thing your birds have so much space inside that barn so they can really move about even if they can't (don't want to) go outside in the snow!

LM - fantastic stuff here! Be sure to keep us updated on if this setup works out. Love the ingenuity of the folks on this thread!

Thanks :) I still feel like they should have more. I snow ploughed out in front of the door, so I hope they come out somewhat. Caught a few birds eating the snow, so at least they aren't avoiding it like the plague! I don't really like them out when the snow is falling heavy like it was. Especially the silkies. It can saturate their feathers and cause issues. I've penned them in the barn for now. Don't like seeing my big barred rock roosters mating the silkie hens. That can't be good!!! I thought one was dead, but she was just squatting really weirdly.

Again - Really need a bachelor pad for the juvenile roosters until breeding season!!

^What she said X2

my coop isn't big at all in case they get snowed in. I remember seeing Aoxa's barn way back when I joined, I just was so envious! So pretty Aoxa!

Okay...just have to repost these. Just looking at them does something to me... emotionally? spiritually?
Just looking at those makes my teeth chatter!

LOL! So pretty, but I would never survive up there. The southern-most part of VA is as far "north" as I can handle. I admire those of you who don't mind the cold.

I rigged up our quarantine coop so the run is covered too... I heard Silkies don't do "wet" very well.

You are so creative! I love how so many have minds that work like that. I am so impressed!

I will take pictures of the buildings I do not have pictures of tomorrow if this snow storm is not too bad.

I have three chicken coop I am painting next year. I did not post that ..I am not creative like so many of you are on here. I thought I could be really lucky and have some wonderful suggestions.

This is a two story re purposed house. It was moved to the property and was free for the taking. The chicken hospital is the top floor. All new chickens are kept here. It is separate from the other area and buildings. Off to the right is an attached car port where the hay and straw is stored. My DH just took out part of the Ceders today. I was tired of getting soaked every time I went into the door. On the left side of this building are little fenced in decks off the top floor.

My gross new fence. My DH likes it. I do not. I have to be reasonable and understand people are getting close and building in what used to be farmers field now. We are no longer surrounded by corn and soy.

This is my broody barn. It is also a free house for the taking. The attic area is filled with old wood.

I do not have pictures of my coop. I will take those pictures tomorrow. I have an egg barn too, but I do not use it any more. My DH has his lawn tractor in there. I do not have all the eggs i used to have. I just do not want to work that hard anymore. I am going to be 55 and time for me to slow down a bit. I want to show birds for a hobby. i will raise birds for others and give them healthy stock. That should help pay for all my tramping all over. Some of my dirt the chickens like

I'm glad you guys like the pictures. I know I love the look of snow. That's about all I like about it though. And only like the look around Christmas.

BDM - Our weather is the same exact temp right now. Just above freezing ;)

Though I am sure we get colder than you - but right now it's relatively mild.
