The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

No...not at all!

I was just upset because I keep hearing about unethical people selling sick birds to folks in general. Then this week, 2 people I know had it happen to them.

I don't even know the sellers from which these folks got their birds! I just keep hearing over and over how people have been getting started pullets or adult chickens and find out they're unhealthy. Delisha, Mumsy, Aoxa, and a few others on this thread have seen it going on at the shows and I also hear it's prevalent at swap meets as well.

Just frustrating to me that they'd take advantage of anyone at all...but in particular a high school student so I was just venting.

Ahh Yes I understand. Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry for seeing it wrongly.lol.

Love the post before.LOL. My vent is aimed at them.LOL.
I totally agree, It is horrible, If you own chickens and sell them then it is your duty to make sure they are fit for sale. Health and selling come hand in hand.

I have 6 black stars and only 5 are laying. Does anyone know a good way to determine which hen isn't laying?
I have 4 hens and normally only get 3 eggs a day. After asking on here I got all the eggs together and matched them up. I had 4 different sized/colored eggs. That's how I figured out everyone was laying just not every day. About twice a week I get 4 eggs. They have been laying since December and eggs production has increased every month but I just dont think I will get all 4 to lay every day.

My Black Stars have been laying since 7/12. I also have 5 California Whites and get 5 eggs a day quite often. I'm just looking for a way to determine if a chicken is laying or not

I noticed my little ee wasn't quite right yesterday when I was cleaning the coop, but had meetings and thought I would take a look at her this morning. She didn't come out of the coop, and I found her dead on the floor. poor baby. empty crop. I should not have waited, I could have gotten her last night off the roost, but it might have been too late then too.

Not sure if I will be able to make myself to a necropsy tonight when I get home. THese 3:30 ams really do a number on me and I won't be home til around 7, and will want to just go to bed.

Thanks

um..Are there fights going on at the moment?
I read some more of this thread and you ( Leahs mom ) are you angry at some one? I read what you said but didn't get the first part.

Sorry, just want to know

Never any fighting around here that I've seen - one reason I love this thread, even if people disagree with something, it's always done with tact.

I knew you could find a smiley MB! Thanks!!!

Glad to hear I'm not too weird... I have friends who wouldn't be happy without shopping trips, diamonds or spas. They think I'm crazy. I say "let's work on the yard" or "let's go camping!" LOL
