Just ordered 5 girl and 2 boy Cream Legbars for hubby's anniversary gift. He's going to be SO excited.
We culled one of our last two Cochin boys on Friday, and will probable do the last one next week. I'm wondering if the mating causes the Cochin girls fluffy butts to get so disgusting? I'm just tired of seeing it. We're going to trim there feathers back there and treat with Nu-Stock, just in case it's Gleet. Although I'm mostly just seeing poo, which gets thick and causes the feathers to mat and then come off, I don't want it to get worse.
Kids and hubby are gone fishing...I'm going to spend the day baking and reading.
Happy Mothers Day!

Yay!!! Where did you get your CL from?

Del & RedRidge ...and Any One Else!!

I'm just starting to get the ingredients for mixing my own and will be making a transition over the next month or so.

I think both of you keep fish meal for mixing your feeds and I've always used fish meal in my feed-mill feed that they ground for me. Friday I got 10 lbs of fish meal and some of the items I'm going to use for my mix.

On the fish meal - I am wondering how you've stored it for long-term storage. I got 10 lbs this time as they let me purchase by the lb.; next time I have to get a 50 lb bag so that is going to last a LONG time w/my small flock.

On the 10 lbs. I have now, I vacuum sealed it into half gallon jars and I'm going to put it in the freezer. (I have one of these : http://www.foodsaver.com/product.aspx?pid=9066 ) It filled 4 jars (2 gallons) so if I get 50 lbs thats 20 jars... A lot, but I could do it

What do y'all do for storage on larger quantities that will be around for awhile?

I want to know where you GET fish meal. I haven't been able to find it at all locally. I don't need it during the summer; with all the free range I'm not worried about animal protien too much. The feed they are getting at this point is more just to remind them of why they love to come into the coop at night. They all have food in their crops when they come in. But I'm concerned about the winter season coming up. My feed is 20% after fermentation, but it's vegetarian, which is less than ideal for omnivores. Working on getting a Dubia Roach colony set up, which should help some, but I'd still like to get ahold of some fish meal.

I'm thinking about adding some molasses to my ferment bucket for the extra nutrients..... gonna have to research that a little bit....

I am fortunate that I live so close to the mill. I can buy , by the lb. It cost more. I do not have my feed building done. It is not even started. It is in a pile in the back yard. I will ssend pictures of what it looks like. I just told my DH I was sending pictures of my feed storage building..guess what he is going to do?
