The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

This one is my favorite of all time, I think she looks like a Daalek
There are so many reasons I love that!!!

Shan30- what an adventure you had today. I would of been wishing for my camera to lol. Glad your ok.

Kassaundra- I don't mind snakes or spiders but that's because we have no poisonous ones around here (daddy long legs don't count since they can't sting/bite you)

Loin wizard- I'm curious what your making as well. Pics are def needed tho cuz I can't put your description into pics in my head. I am more of a visual person.

LM- I use pallets a lot. I have no idea how tell if their treated or not tho :(. Pallets are my free started wood for the winter months. And I have made a few gates out of them for the chickens. Now you have me thinking............I get them free so they were a great deal :/

Had a new rood put on the house today. They took out the roof vents I had up & I think they will be perfect for the hoop coop. They def don't let rain in. Just have to see if they will stay on with zip strips. :) can't wait to put them on

How is 20% to much for adults??? Mine are on flock raiser because they are so many different ages, and are all doing well??
I don't think it matters as long as they aren't overeating... but I have nothing to back that up.
The red she is on is a rose petal, she is no bigger then the finger nail on your pinky finger.

Wow!!! My kids want to know what she is. And my son says the snake looks like a zombie snake :)

My husband and his brother just left for Shawnee, OK. Their parents lost their house, all outbuildings, and vehicles. They are okay. The walls of the house are still standing, but no roof, etc. They wanted to spend the night in the basement! :(

Lisa :)
Lisa - sending well-wishes to your DH's parents and all the other folks affected by the twisters!

Another Question or two: I hope that you experienced chicken keepers do not mind another question from me?! -Lynn
This thread is here so that questions can get answered. Please - never feel awkward about asking questions!

Oh good heavens! Glad you're OK - and good thinking on the gun safes!!

LOL LOL LOL LOL That is so much like me! When I see something cool I'm all about getting the camera first personal safety last. I thought my husband was going to have a heart attack when I laid on the ground and got this shot

Kassaundra - you know I'm going to be stealing more of your beautiful shots like the one above to share on the thing so that more folks can enjoy them.
This snake shot is fantastic!!! What a beauty! And the spider... squee!

Shan, glad you are ok. Just so you know, with bears its noise that gets them. Especially metal noise - banging on trash can lid, tin can shakers, etc. I have bears in my yard every spring and fall, and have come face to face (ok, well lets say 10 feet apart, but that is too darn close) a couple of times. Glad you are planning ahead with the gunsafes. You know they are coming back!

Hope your chickens make it home

Thank you guys for the well wishes! My husband called and had just arrived in Shawnee, OK.

Kassaundra those are beautiful pictures. I especially liked the Black Widow spider.

Lisa :)

Aoxa, and others:
Most are 17 week, 12 are 13 weeks. Roosts were higher than nest box but lowered them thinking they were having a difficult time getting to them. they are near equal height now. They don't totally avoid that part of coop...they will all bed down in the shavings under the roosts.
