This amused me to no end! I lucked out for the female to male ratio. You have to come over soon so we can figure who stays and who goes for the roosters.

Please don't use it around your chickens. It has a place in certain treatments and you can use it in the carpet like I said earlier. However, don't take a risk with your birds.

Regarding the "natural" thread being long...

Just a heads-up that you can search the thread with terms you're looking for pretty easily to find things that have been discussed in the past quickly.

At the top of the thread you see the title. Right under it are several links. Click on "Search this Thread" and you can search for terms in this thread only. If you further click on the "advanced" after you're in there, there are more options like searching for all posts by a particular individual, etc.

Almost every homemade laundry detergent recipe calls for Borax. Is this okay, or do you suggest something else?

but I think for fleas in the carpet, or for washing diapers or whatnot it's a great product. just, like many other (even safe) washing/cleaning products you don't want to drink it (ammonia springs to mind). I use borax in my laundry for instance.

Yes. I use it in the carpet if I ever have a flee issue and also in the laundry. I just wouldn't use it around the birds housing, litter, on the birds themselves, etc. They are small and it wouldn't take much to cause a problem.

I also have used boric acid for roaches. Takes care of them without using extremely toxic fumigation. We had them once when we purchased a used fridge and didn't realize it came complete with roach eggs and a roach or 2 up in the insides where it wasn't seen.

I use Boric Acid for fleas and in my laundry also. One of our cats is allergic to it and nearly died. I still use it but move the cat for the duration. I don't find it 100% effective nor do I find it a fast method of ridding fleas but nor do I like the thought of spraying (bombing) my house with an aerosol spray.

At this point in this summer it seems that we are fleas 1 Sue 0.

I'm more concerned with not using it in litter and on the chickens. I do use for laundry, and roaches/fleas in carpets, etc. Just not directly on an animal or person.
