The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Quote: Okay.. I'm coming.

And...is that Bulldogkid?

I am glad i am not the only one who does not name chickens. Here chick chick is as far as I go lately. The last bird
Mine are "kiddo". Every time I go around them - since they were little chicks - I'd say, "Hey kiddos, whats up?" Very loudly.

Now, when I call them I shout "Hey kiddos!" and they all come running!

I guess I do refer to some of them by names such as "little red" "big red" (larger/smaller wattles) and "charlie" and "charlies sister or cs for short...but there's a story behind Charlie and cs...both ladies btw)

Quote: I dry hatch until lock down...day 18..my temps must have been way too low..even though my therms said 99.5. So when i placed them in lock down I raised the humidity to 63%-65%, they were probably only on day 15 or 16 on development. That was way to humid for that early in development. Days have no meaning. Day 18 when development was only day 15 is pretty bad. Poor fella's.

They could have gotten to chilled during shipment, or been old when you got them. Older eggs delay developing. Could have been a factor.

My styrofoam incubator is terrible with temps. It's way lower than it says. I'm talking a good 4-5 degrees lower. Mine is a newer model. I max it out during hatch and am lucky to reach 98.5 and 99. Thank God for my new Cabinet Incubator. I'll never have to buy chicks again (unless I want new blood).

Don't know if anyone or everyone has seen this. started by fred's hens. Walt is going to talk about and judge NH

BYC is proud to have members who are licensed APA judges as well as recognized breeders of standard bred fowl and have been to Champion's row with their birds, many, many times. There is a growing number of folks who are serious about learning more, at an advanced level, about standard bred poultry and the Standard of Perfection for their favorite birds. This thread is NOT AN ON-LINE SHOW. Photos are very limiting and faculty and students alike recognize the reality of this shortcoming. Please bear this in mind at all time. The purpose of this thread is not about competition as it is about advanced education. Again, education is the goal.
I know I'm REALLY LATE ... But wanted to say thanks for posting this again. I'm subscribed and ready for school

and I'm sure there are others here that want to watch too. If anyone goes on over there, please be sure to read from the beginning to see the rules. That's important.
