We use shavings and leaves and stuff for bedding, and hay in the nesting boxes. We tried shavings in the nesting boxes, but the hay works a lot better in our opinion ... our girls are vigorous scratchers, so just kick the shavings out of the boxes, which might be because the boxes are pretty big so they *can* scratch around in them.
I'm not sure about using hay, because I don't think I could find any around here that hasn't been sprayed. I'm going to hang on and see what happens when (if) they start laying in the boxes. Maybe it'll be fine to use the shredded paper...
Ok I will take pictures when I do the OJ bottle. It was super simple just drilled a hole in the bottle just below where I wanted the water to stop.AFL - you'll have to show us a photo of how you did your bottle for the water.

I get 1 egg a day maybe 5 days a week if I am lucky.
