The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

That's sweet Thank you. You realize I rarely (and I do mean rarely) have pups. I breed only for replacements for myself, so about once every 4-5 years. But there are some excellent breeders out there... it's normally just a matter of asking all the right questions.

Same here, I haven't seen anything even tempting at a feed store.

I may look but most appear in bad shape and most of the workers don't even know what they are selling ...I did buy 3 pekins ducks the day they came in but my husband wanted to eat them, and i kept them far away from anything else I had...If i want chicks I will just hatch some from mine,do an egg swap etc, I have bought some turkey eggs from another member from organically raised stock..

just finished digging out the two coops. fed the girls some sprouted lentils and garbanzo beans.

here's what my morning looked like:

about 11 inches and it is still snowing. couple inches in the screened porch. it is april. there aren't any pics of the chickens because......they aren't happy either!

I guess i shouldn't complain here in Northern IL ..I don't have snow but it is a whooping 36 without the windchill which brings it down to 21...the weather is more like Feb. than April..I let my chickens out this morning they ran out and ate and back inside they aren't enjoying it either..On the upside I got a Ronco counter top rotisserie at Aldi's for $29 marked down they Sell for $129 from the companies website..husband was offering to kill the meatie that made him bleed this morning ,to try it out I told him he can get even in a couple weeks...

My mom lives in Eagan. She said they got 6 inches. She said the sun was out now and things are melting. There is hope!
She used to have a resort on Lake Mille Lacs. I bet she is glad she isn't there anymore.

Yes I realize that. My chance of winning the lotto is slim since I do not play
