The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Thanks. The pic where the girls, are on the roost has the billboard tarp on the top.

The nesting box is divided into 2 boxes but you can remove it to make one big box. I might end up taking the divider out. The big girls and Stella are kind of big for the individual boxes :)

The strips are short, I will make them longer, I made them short b/c I was going to fill the bucket to the bottom of the strips w/ hay, which I did, but they scratched all out (twice!!!!)
I'm brand new to chickens and your fleece strips in a bucket have me completely intrigued

Is this for cold weather, to keep the littles warm? or something to do with broody hens?
Also I can't wait to hear what your feather duster broody is, inquiring minds want to know

It is for comfort, emotional, since their instinct is to get under a mom, it lets them act more like normal broody raised chicks. and for added warmth at night.

The feather dusters are what I put in the broody box of all chicks that I brood not by a hen.

So full of Great ideas today!
I love them!

Let my Ladies mingle with Kaylee's Chicks this weekend they were all more interested in the silk worms falling from the tree.

But at least they are co-mingling before they all get put together.

Quick note this is the Grow out pen NOT the Coop.
it is sold for 6 adult Chickens I can not imagine stuffing any of my Adult Hens in this Coop let alone 6.

A great day was had by all Celebrated my son's 15th birthday and relaxed on the back deck with all my family just watching and playing with the Chickens!

silk worms! I didn't know they were in texas? must be a nuisance, sometimes we get these army tent caterpillars - an invasion- and they are gross, falling on everything.

I know what you mean about these tiny coops that are sold. Makes me mad because a new chicken owner doesn't usually realize how impractical they are and often spends a fair amount on them. I just saw a bunch at a tsc - and talked a woman out of getting one. they should be labeled "for banties only" and have warnings about how poorly they hold up in outdoor weather. At least the ones sold up here -

AFL, that coop looks so tidy and well put together. How many hog panels are in it? And would you mind refreshing my memory about what kind of plastic you ended up using?
