The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

They're both about 1 week old. I pulled them out from under the hen house and had them in the dog eggs. I save iffy eggs for dog. These hens are about 3 weeks with no rooster and I was thinking the same can't tell on the left and probably fertile on the right.broody is sitting on some from the left and possibly the right.

The ones she is on are fresh though

No rooster? How could they be fertile with no rooster?


ETA: Oh...I figured out you meant they had been separate from the roo for 3 weeks. I get it.

Yes, haha. That's what I mean. They have free ranged with the silkie rooster but he's not gone to them as far as I can tell.

Do you guys mind looking t this pic and saying if they're fertile or not?



Also, is an egg going bad when they start getting darker spots in the yolk like the one on the right?

They both look infertile to me.

Well confusing.. aoxa, what about the Halo around the white dot on the one on the right

and my silkier isn't broody. Apparently it just takes her all day to lay an egg

Update on Miss Gray -
I went out with her into the chicken wooded area for awhile today. She is doing well, talking, and acting quite herself. I had to keep all the others from going around her as she's terrified and on "high alert".

I think if she were any of the others I could just let her return to the flock tonight. But not Miss Gray.

Glad to hear she is going better. Its to bad the other flock is so mean to her. I agree with what Aoxa said earlier that she needs a home where she could be a pet or with Silkies.
