The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Our version of "The Teddy Bears' Picnic." The weather was so beautiful today, the girls had a blast - as did their picnic guests!

Girl on the right is going to start laying any day! The little bantam cochin roo has been mounting her. Of course my Swedish Flower roo has only been mounting the girls that aren't ready yet - LOL. Time to separate them!
she looks a lot like my guy Hairdo

I love pickled eggs too..I do not put mine in the fridge..they pickle on the counter.

I love them hot also..

I don't make them any more, DH does not like anything pickled or anything that smells like vinegar.:(

leah's mom--I use by excalibur dehydrater for making yogurt-sooooo easy, clean usually do gallon at a time. wow a stainless interior-how nice-cannot justify a new one though

I know!!! I have wanted ss for a long time and then I finally ordered one and the next week I saw the stainless on their site. They were very gracious to take it back and told me the full ss will be out sometime in the next 3 mos. if all goes well. The ss one that they have right now still has the poly interior.

So...I wait...

It was so nice out, we made a chicken snowman as well.

Anyone want to help me name my new hen?

Too late. She's already half eaten by the greedy Pennies.

I haven't posted many silkie pictures on here in quite some time, as they are penned for the winter. Here's Edna who should start laying any day now. The biggest thing I don't like about this breed is how long it takes them to start laying. 8-9 months. It's agonizing!

A barred Easter Egger. I think the barring is really nice for a mixed breed. It's a boy as well. Hackles & saddles coming in shiny and pointy. I thought this was a boy from a very early age, and over on the EE braggers thread, they had me second guessing myself, saying it looked like a girl. I should always go with my gut :p It's probably the smallest boy out of this cross, and I'm tempted to keep him to make more barred EEs. Going to think on it.

Here is proof it's a boy. :)

My spare bantam Ameraucana rooster. He has a crooked toe, but is backup in case something should happen to my good rooster. This is my loudest crower out of the 15 roosters. It's ear piercing.

Bonnie, my little OEGB mix.

One of the barred EE girls.

George Jr. gently grooming one of the female houdans. It was so cute.

One of my weirdest looking chickens. I put him in another category altogether. Like the silkies. I have turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks and Silkies. :)

Dusting

Jagger. He's so regal and handsome. I don't care if his barring looks messy. :)

Quote: I would use a tripod and set timed exposure, 1 sec should do. You can try different times to get the exposure you like.
