The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

hello all,
PLEASE HELP
i just got my first Silkie chicks last week. i have a problem with my blue silkie Bear. Bear is 9 days old and tonite i found her on her side being trampled by the filler roosters that were shipped with my order. she is wobbly and shaking her head once every so often she opens her mouth and streaches her neck. can anyone tell if there is a chance to save her or what might be going on?
this is my Bear

please help me keep her.
thanks for any ideas / jo

I am fairly new ,just started my flock of chicks 2 months ago again after not having one for many years,so maybe an old timer might have more or better advice.
How many Chicks are in how much brooder space?
We actually put a piece of wood in to divide it for the weaker ones, so they didn't get hurt by the others or bigger ones so that the light covered both sides of it though.

Might add some hiding places into the brooder or get a bigger brooding pen. Only thing i see is she might need hobbled to straighten out that left foot that is trying to turn in. Good Luck to you and Bear

ok thanks i told my dh we need to weed out the extras. he isnt fond of the idea but I ordered the ones i wanted and got just as many roo chicks as my special ones. they are all in my garden bath tub.I have 4 cochin bantams , 4 silkies, and 4 standard Cochin. they mailed 11 "Barred" with them for warmth. I am greatful to the roos for keeping them alive on the ride but I really dont want them and no one I know does either. I have been asking everyone I know for 9 days.

I don't see an issue with the left foot at all. I would wait and watch it. Give her a chance to exercise and move around without being trampled. Sounds like a normal reaction to what happened to her. I'd just put some vitamins/electrolytes in her water and make sure she is eating and drinking.

Putting a divider in the brooder is the best idea for small chicks against barred rocks.
