The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I'll take this conversation even farther away from chickens. It's about feeding chickens potentially though so it fits! I just sliced up a big pumpkin to give my chickens the seeds. There were TONS in there. (Must have been a very fertile pumpkin) I gave some to the chickies, am saving some to give later and would like to keep some to plant. How should I store them until I can plant them? They are currently dry and sitting on my counter on a cookie tray.

Is your processor going to cure your bacon and ham, or are you going to do it yourself?

My processor is Amish. Not only will they cure my bacon and ham, I will be getting Krepples from the little bits and pieces, one of my very favorite breakfast foods. One of these days I may learn to do it myself, but with customers on the line, I don't trust myself with a smoker..... wait a minute.... my girlfriend and I both smoke.... Maybe I oughtta rephrase....

Cool and dry. I usually stick them in a cupboard. No baggie though or they may just sprout lol!

Great! Now y'all have made me hungry!

Thankfully, I have 3 Tamworth hogs "the bacon pig" going to processing Wednesday! Gotta load them up tomorrow though. I don't imaging that will be fun....
We fought one for 2 hours trying to load it up for processing. The butcher told us his uncles "secret" and it really works. Put a 5 gallon bucket over the hogs head and push it backwards. It will back up anywhere you want it to go.

Is Krepples anything like scrapple? Good stuff, if it is.

So, you're selling your Tamworth's? Where's Coshocton? Anywhere near Dayton? If it is, I might have to talk to you about getting one sometime when we're visiting my in-laws.
