The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

each is organic. I go between a Blue Seal brand and one from another local feed store. I haven't noticed any major changes in feathers or eggs--but I started after feathers had been eaten, so they look scruffy, anyway. The eater is my white leghorn--she always has done. Maybe the feather piking won't stop until she's gone to heaven.

have noticed my leghorns are bad about feather picking when locked up but when they are out free ranging they don't do it even when they come in to roost at night

I picked up my 6 leghorn chicks yesterday and last night stuffed them under brahma mama. So now I have brahma mama number 1 with 5 EE chicks she hatched and brahma mama number 2 with the leg horn chicks. My dang barred rock and her sex link daughter both want to be broody but want the top nest and freak out when I go to break them or try to move them. Silly girls. I also have 2 more brahmas sitting on a couple eggs and an australorp sitting on more EE eggs. This the season to be broody.

I officially have as many chicks now as laying hens, 2 of the Bs crosses though gotta go to new homes as they are cockrels, will see still got 20 under 2 hens and 19 in the incubator lol

I'm pretty close to that ratio too, I'm not sure how it happened.

chicken math lol, afraid what the one buff is going to come back with , pretty sure she's got a hidden nest as disappears from the clock frequently, first broody tried sitting on 30 eggs , as the other girls all decided to help but she wouldn't give up any of them

Yikes, 30 eggs would be a big pile, I'm already overwhelmed with all these chicks, soon I hope to have some poults hatch too. I'm usually more level headed than this. They are very cute.
