The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Any other Food Network fans here?

Last night on Chopped they had "Aracuana Eggs" as an ingredient, making it seem like they were something exotic. I laughed.

Sounds like a marketing opportunity to me. A whole egg carton full of Araucana eggs with a little sign posted next to it:

"As seen on Chopped"

Then... priced about $2 higher than the others!

The world needs more back yard chickens. If I can help contribute to that outcome in a small way then all I can say is, "YAY!"

Or "Woot!"

It's been a busy morning for me. Did the fourteen day candle in my LG 'bator. Ten eggs right on the mark and three look like 10 day embryos. I took an orange crayon and marked a ? mark on those three. Lock down in four days. Going to take an extra close look at those three at that time.

Just finished feeding and opening the barn for the day now I'm off to the local Nursery. Just got a call bare root fruit trees have arrived. I'm leaving now to pick up a King and Honey crisp apple trees they are holding for me. These go out in the main foraging area for the chickens. My orchard will soon be full.
All the great discussion about good hedges for natural chicken raising has me thinking about filling in a few bare places in mine. I think a few dwarf Filbert bush trees will do nicely in that capacity.
