The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Life is crazy. Mom made it through surgery, (unexpected) In a week we should know what type of cancer we are dealing with. Makes me want to pass out hugs. Sue

Mumsy...a feather duster! Another genius idea!

Now if we could figure out a way to heat it, (and not burn down the house) we could make a million selling broody surrogates!

The red and blue silkies are cockerels, so are all three Australorps in the post, all have hackle, saddle and sickle feathers in.
That's what I was afraid of... so my entire order of hens might turn out to be 5 roos and 4 hens, not to mention ending up with 2 silkie roos and only 1 silkie hen. That's is very poor sexing...

Thank you Delisha & Mumsy- I will check out the website & I have no night shade plants & the rhodendrums (sp) are not near where their run will be.

I forgot who posted about the potatoes & tomatoes. I have heard that before. I know tomatoes are poisonous for dogs (the fruit to) and I figured that out after my puppy Lily decided she LOVES them....Needless to say there are higher fences around the garden. Thankfully the chickens didnt touch the stems of the tomatoes when they were allowed in the garden at the end of the year. More interested in all the creepy crawly bugs in the soil and the celery lol

I had no idea that tomato leaves were bad for chickens... we grew a whole bunch of tomato plants at my mil's and her chickens had free-range access to them all summer but didn't touch them. They sure did a lot of damage to the cabbage and melons though.
