The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

What one are you looking at Mumsy?

I am going to get the genesis I think..not sure yet. I will have to discuss it with DH, and he will say no, and I will give a good argument and he will say..yes
I am so spoiled rotten.
Just had the discussion. He said no. He made a good argument. I just bought the new LG. We are going to purchase Catdance eggs and chicks in two weeks spending a night in a motel and I am ordering HRIR in a month. My rebuttal argument? I am a cheap date. I don't buy jewels. I don't buy clothes or shoes unless I need them. I could have worse vices. I need a better incubator to make sure the investment in eggs is well spent. I also am spoiled rotten. I want the Genesis 1588. Found one with free shipping. Might wait a week to order.

In my fantasy world....I say the same thing...I don't dye my hair, don't do my nails, I am still wearing the same black dress shoes for the last 10 years, (shows you how much I go out). They were very expensive, I guess when you buy the quality, it lasts you 10 years. SO, the same could be said for an incubator? Right?

Geez $400+, no thank you. I'll stick with my hova bator.

You ladies are so funny! Yeah - I'd love a better 'bator... but I need all my extra funds for the trailer repurposing project.

Oh - and some FUN NEWS!! The Heritage RIR eggs that were so generously gifted to me have internally pipped! I didn't try to hatch them myself - not eggs that valuable... so a good friend has been incubating them in her 'bator. I can't wait to see what chicks are waiting for me on Sunday when I make it up there to pick them up! I better get the brooder ready!

Broody Silkie is still broody. I didn't see her eat or drink today - - for those with broody experience, should I worry? I'm guessing "no" but I don't want to make any mistakes. Chickens make better chickens than people, right? But I tell you - if I don't see signs that she ate by late tomorrow... I'm going to get really worried!

Oh - and I have Cochies eggs (Silkie x Cochin) or Silkin eggs... ok - what ever they are... I have some in my own 'bator. Day 7 candling (on Tuesday) and those little buggers were moving! I was surprised to see movement in something so small, so early. Saw movement in some of the Swedish Flower Hen eggs too! YAY! Have some Dark Cornish (probably cross, but could be pure) eggs in there too - - too dark to see movement, but they were definitely developing.

And now I'm off to bed.
Night, folks!

Cream Legbar.? Or Rhodebar?? Wow...LOVE LOVE LOVE!

The sign on the cage said: Breed: Old English Game, Variety: Crele

I took the picture of the sign, and then the picture of the hen/pullet/cockerel. I knew I would never remember.
