The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Lookie what I'll be picking up on Sunday...

I'm guessing this one is a Silcochin (Silkie x Cochin) chick based upon the dark mottled appearance of the beak and legs.

Same Silcochin surrounded by either Heritage RIRs or Production Reds. More are pipping and zipping as I type (according to ki4got who has incubated and is hatching them for me).

Very cute!

I don't get worried or let incubating get to me. I do enjoy it and it is fun. Even when things go upside down. I'm always learning and gaining experience. But...I don't have patience with faulty equiptment.

THAT I COMPLETELY understand... so odd -

I'm guessing & thinking from yours & other posts that incubating is very rewarding when you see all those little fluff balls coming out of the eggs successfully.

- on a much lesser level, I get a thrill out of seed planting -- seeing all the little seedlings pop up - the wonder of life.

The one to the left looking at us is a silkie x cochin cross as well by the looks of the beard. Especially since your SFHs and RIRs do not have beards ;)

Finally my first silkie..they sure have black skin..the egg is marked white but it sure looks like it is gold....wow that takes a long time to zip. The one that piped is still just piped and nothing..it is peeping though..nothing else on the rest of them. :(. Depressing for sure.

I loved that video..that chick just popped his head out..never seen that before.
I believe White Silkies hatch with yellow down. My White had yellow down.
