The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Hi folks, I've recently returned to BYC (after a 3 month hiatus) to find the OT thread gone. Has it been continued under another title, is this thread the replacement? Also, I know Bee was going to start her own website and write a book, any info on Bee would be greatly appreciated. WOW, I have a lot of catching up to do...anyway...Happy New Year all
Welcome Back to BYC, hope this finds you and your flock doing well. Sadly Bee is gone and such a loss to BYC newbies like me. Her two great threads - Gnarly Bunch and Road Less Traveled - are still up and wonderful to re-visit from time to time. BYC edited the threads so you won't be able to see what caused her to leave, I feel she was sorely disrespected, just my opinion. Thankfully there are still plenty of OT's to share their chicken wisdom with us. Enjoy!

They are nice looking birds for sure..IF they are those particular birds..many times people use someones else's photos. They sure are nice..wonder what the line is..can you call them and ask? I wish I lived closer....
Rhode Island Red Roosters - $15 (Little Marsh, Pa.)

6 Month old Heritage Breed of Rhode Island Reds from Dick Horstman Line- via his website(hortsmanpoultry.com) HUGE heritage birds. Roosters 15.00 each- sorry no hen sales. Only will be selling a few of these so if interested do not wait. These chicks were expensive, but worth the wait and time, as they are superior birds, nothing like hatchery birds.

I copied and pasted above. Not so far away.

I had 2 Silkie x Cochin chicks hatch over night and they are already Jedis!

And look! See how they stay together as they traverse the dangerous planet eggshell.

(OK - that's actually a reflection of my small, red LED flashlight that I use for candling and checking in on my 'bator at night. Just a case of perfect placement and I didn't know it until I downloaded the pictures.)

When we got up this morning, one of the Dark Cornish pipped, so I called my 9-year-old over to see. As she stood there, the thing went from pip to zip to springing out of its shell in a period of about 3 minutes!

To keep my breeds separate so I can tell who is who, I put the DC in a pink and white dishwasher caddy and my Swedish Flower Hen egg is in a blue caddy. They snap shut to prevent escape.

Not a very good shot, but all the chick pics were taken at very close quarters in the closet under the stairs through the little windows on the 'bator.

Oh - and after last month's botched attempt at hatching, I should mention that tomorrow noon will be day 21 for these eggs. Those Silkie x Cochins were super early, and the DC was almost a day and a half early. All are fully developed with no extra yolk to speak of.

Still waiting on one SFH egg, 2 DC and 2 "Silcochin" eggs.

I'm most anxious about the SFH egg.
Cute little ones and your daughter must have been excited to watch that egg!

Y'all remember the dog I rescued after he killed my chickens? Apparently, he has severe abandonment issues.....
This is what he did to my dealership Sunday!

Now he is back at the farm, tied to a stout cable, using one of my hog shelters.

Can't kill him or take him to the death shelter, but I may have him place with a local rescue.

Ate you kidding
