The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Ditto that. Thanks to Miss Lydia for linking me over here. I didn't know what I was going to do with myself tonight!!
This would be a very long winter if not for someplace to hang out and I don't frequent bars so this is it.

buckeyes,
who has buckeyes? I saw some gorgeous pics on a thread here, might have been the Road thread, and fell in love with them. Am thinking about getting some this spring.
If you have or have had buckeyes, what do you think about them?
I believe it was on the OT thread where i saw someone post they had Buckeyes

Since the hawk swooped down on mine this past week, I have to go out with them or they won't go outside the fence. sorry about your ff, thats a bummer.

I figure knocking over the FF is just part of the general craziness that seems to be in the air. Makes me think I should check out what the moon stage is, lol.

Interesting that your hens won't go outside the fence . I wonder what the recovery period is for this? Earlier this year, I had a hen wiggle by me thru the gate and she got snagged on the electric fence. She was pretty upset, and it took two months for her to decide she could go out of the gate again. She would stay in the chicken yard even though the whole flock was out.

Wonder if Stony's ducks are still skittish? They looked pretty good in the pics with the other ducks.

I'm sure it takes a while to get over something as horrifying as what they went through. I was only able to coax 2 of my hens to go out with me today, yesterday about 5 plus one of my roos went but I could tell they were nervous.

I have never had the pleasure of a buckeye. Actually I have been reading quite a bit about different breeds. Not a lick about that breed. I am going to stick to the RIR, my English Orpingtons and the egg layers I have for a year. Than reevaluate after I show a bit.

Sorry about your glass in the FF. I would have dumped it too.

Nesting boxes...

Where are they? Birds like to nest close to the ground and roost a bit higher. there are great suggestions to help you out on here. You can continue to place them on your roosts.
If your nest box is high, you might want to change it. If I were a chicken and the nest box was high, I would roost in it too. If it is low to the ground they are used to ground roosting and the placement will work after a few tries and they mature a bit.
