The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

What a great mother! If you could clone her and her broodiness, you would make millions!
she cloned herself in her offspring "Daughter". Except for the personality. Mama and her chicks follow me everywhere. Daughter has NOTHING to do with me when raising chicks. But in effective broodiness, Daughter is as amazing as Mama. Daughter looks like Mama but her feathers have a bolder black outline.

Well, more news, making an incubator tonight. Playing around with things I have on hand. Hope it turns out.

I think that knowing the humidity makes me more nervous. I just locked down some cream legbar eggs and I am very worried about the humidity cause I supposedly know what it is. I finally took out the hygrometer and just backed away. We will know in a couple of days if it was good if we have chicks.

The owners of our local feed store (who we supply eggs to since their dog killed their chickens) asked us if we were interested in selling any of our chickens. Well, we'd have given them a few to start over, but it was actually for friends of theirs who have never had chickens but just set up a coop/run. They know nothing about chickens, so I directed them to BYC and this thread in particular. They want to raise their new pullets naturally, so I told them about U-ACV, fermented feed, pumpkins/pumpkin seeds, etc. I hope to see them here soon! They have two of our BR pullets who were hatched on 8/12, so they should be laying within the next month. Of course, we gave them some eggs so they'll know how much better they'll be than store-bought.
