The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Since we're sharing pics of babies...here's our girl, 8 weeks 22lbs.

She's met the chickens and is wary so far. She got a little too close to the BR and got pecked pretty good. As soon as winter break is done I'll start taking her with me for chicken chores. Puppies are fun!

Oh my gosh how adorable... I love Great Danes..

Binkus ingnored the nest box all day until an hour ago when she climbed in and made herself comfortable. It occrued to me I haven't posted pictures of them since I got them.
I bought these as a sexed 3 1/2 month old pair from the well known and respected Silkie breeder M. Best at the WFF Spring Brisk show last fall. She told me they were light greys and gave me lots of tips for their care. Their crests and beards were terribly crusty and a nuisance from smushing their faces into the FF so I trimmed them with sissors. They will not be show birds and I want their eyes unobstructed for now. They are the sweetest little Silkies I've ever owned. M. Best did a great job with them. I hope to keep breeding Grey Silkies for fun. There are not a lot of them around these parts.

Binkus is the female and Stinkus male. Took this picture the day after I brought them home.

Even though their poofy heads are raggedy, they are still pretty birds in my view. A couple months made a big difference in their sizes. Still small just the way I like them. They love their FF!

I love this picture. I believe they may be from the same hatch. Such a big difference at 5 1/2 months. Binkus is very girly and Stinkus is all boy. They are absolutley bonded to each other.

I am curious..why are you waiting? I am soooooo nosey!

Since everyone is into baby pictures right now.. Here are a couple to join in the fun. Silkie chick above. Weirdest colouring I've had hatch. It has two white dots on either side of it's head. Almost like eyebrows. I'm curious to see what it will look like older. If I had to guess at this age, I'm going with male.

See the FF crust?

And my favourite little splash Ameraucana bantam who is 8 weeks old today. Dovely. Before she got her beard, she reminded me of a dove. They are so tiny. Probably the size of a 3 week old Barred Rock chick. They'll be just about a pound and a half full grown.
