The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

They are beautiful aoxa.. my EE''s always have ff on their beards /muffs they are so comical looking. Them girls love to eat too.

Mumsy those Silkies are adorable, makes me want a couple.

She's met the chickens and is wary so far. She got a little too close to the BR and got pecked pretty good. As soon as winter break is done I'll start taking her with me for chicken chores. Puppies are fun!

I am curious..why are you waiting? I am soooooo nosey!

With the girls out of school and Maiden being new I'm taking a break from major chicken chores. I collect eggs, hang out for a bit in the morning and evenings and watch them from the window in the kitchens. Honestly, I'm exhausted, and things going on with hubbies base have enhanced my insomnia. I don't mind nosey at all, if it was too invasive I'd just ignore you
I will be going to Big R tomorrow for BOSS to start sprouting, and I'm going to get some clover to spread in the run. Hopefully it takes, and then spreads naturally. Spring can not get here soon enough, I miss green and sunshine.

Kids take all the energy right out of you. This time of year, my nephew is more hyper and talks so loud. He should have his hearing checked I tell you.

I didn't see the chickens at all today. I had a cold right before Christmas, and was shocked when it went away the same day. Well now it's back and it is the worst cold I've had in a couple years. Hope it doesn't turn to bronchitis again. Vicks, lotion tissues and honey lozenges. I may end up taking something more for sleep. Cold season is in full swing here! I blame it on the hustle and bustle of holidays.

I did get to cut up the roosters I processed on Saturday. Also tasted it. OH MY. SOOOO much better that I did the killing here, and with the killing cone. So tender and has a whole lot of flavour.

Cut up 5 of them into thighs, drumsticks, wings, breasts, loose meat pieces for stir fry and then the rest for boiling for stew. Left two whole and am giving one to the friend who helped me pluck. It was a very productive weekend.

My chickens have like the sprouted BOSS on a scale of 1-10 maybe a 5, my ducks- geese haven't even tried it. I sprouted way to much so hopefully by the time they get through this first batch they like it better. Or I may not sprout BOSS again.

Since we're sharing pics of babies...here's our girl, 8 weeks 22lbs.

Aoxa, re read my results to delisha and Mumsy. The mixed chick is a boy. Mom was a barred rock and he got the barring gene. Hard to see in the Blue birds, but you can see it when he spreads out his wing. Also at 4 weeks he has red wattles growing( I hid it in the picture as not to give it away)
