The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Nice blog and congrats to the winner!

The pictures and diagrams are very informative, you did a great job. It is very educational and many people will learn tons from it.

nearly 50 here today. The boys and girls are enjoying being able to forage again.

Group shot of part of the flock. I take pictures of these guys often. They are my front yard free rangers.

whenever I refer to my old girls this is who I mean. The RIR's, the Black Austrolop and the mutt on the left (simply named Pretty Girl) all are at least 4-1/2 years old. A few of the RIR's pictured here I have had for 5 years and they were adults when I got the. And 3 of them went broody last year. The Blue Sumatra roo in the back is 3 and the handsome mutt roo in the back is Sumatra/Austalop mix born to one of the broody RIR's this past year.

this is "Hairdo". A polish mutt. His "hair" is pretty mellow looking today. Some days it is spiked right up straight.

I just started my fermented feed!

a mug of ACV, 4 cups of 16% pellets and some water. Will keep stirring over 48 hours -

So, do I feed them straight pellets, or should I be feeding them something else as well?

Thanks!

The full necropsy, complete with gory pictures in great detail is now posted on that thing.

So sorry that she didn't make it, you certainly did everything you could and you made the correct call. She may be gone but definitely not forgotten as she helped to educate me - and I'm sure others, too - via her necropsy and pictures.

Your birds are beautiful and so is your property. I am so envious of everyone that has all that space. Such lucky chickens!

I just came in from taking down then reinstalling our chicken wire fence. I had placed it too close to the house so I had to move it. We have 2 acres but are too close to neighbors. Hence the chicken fence. At least they get to free range or I guess it's called pasturing. Anyway, it's better than being confined to the run.

a mug?

not sure what that measurement is but it sounds like way to much.

you are good to feed them just that..unless it is a real mug of ACV, than no one is going to eat it.

for 4 cups of dry feed, you will be using maybe 3 cups water and possibly 1/2 tablespoon ACV
