The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Delisha,

Weren't you supposed to get your silkie eggs today?
Yes..they are in Milwaukee...not a phone call yet..
The DH is knashing his teeth..He even threw something at me when I said..ohh oh my phone is off. When he asked for an update from the shipping department.. It was so cute. I was joking..and so was he. He knew I did not have my phone off and was teasing...It was funny.

I also won some eggs for the hatch a long
And Jim is sending me eggs I was just notified. He is sending me 15 free test eggs!!
I am going to have a full incubator!!
That is so funny! I do not hatch in winter and the first winter I hatch it is going to be a pretty big hatch.

oh how cool! i am scared to death to hatch during the winter time/but i might one day have a set up to be able to do that. my daughter would be devastated if any of hers passed...but i'm so excited for u! i would be thrilled

I normally do not hatch during winter...since coming to BYC I do every thing different. I have never let a hen set during winter..I am doing that too. Chicks inside and chicks outside. I must be insane.

i have eggs setting under a broody on day 10-11 i don't remember .. aoxa what day is yours on mine was a day behind yours so i hope you remember lol even though you remember everything even my silkies ages from a long time ago hatch

i know it is the best site ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just love it. i haven't hatched anything yet, this was our first year for having chickens, but i am itching to do so. my gold lace wyd has been broody for as long as i can remember. i have just let her be but i collect eggs daily. but i am thinking around the end of march we might start letting her do her thing, see how she does. i am getting some silky pullets in april so i plan on doing a breeding pen and hatching some eggs from them, then get our polish pen going too. so many plans-just cant wait till this weather gets warmer! please let us know how it all goes-just love hearing/learning from everyone's stories.

LOL - I have some on day 10 in the 'bator and then got an amazing offer of Heritage RIR eggs from someone I respect immensely - heck - No Way I could say no to those eggs, so I'm going to take them to a friend 90 minutes away who is a hatchaholic.

I also have eggs from the white Silkie and fertilized by a bantam cochin, and a Swedish Flower egg that was either fertilized by the same bantam cochin or my Swedish Flower roo - no way to know who the chickiedaddy is. Is there any point in hatching mixed eggs? I suppose I could always sell the chicks at a swap, but I'd like to hear opinions on hatching mixes.
