The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

wow that was really interesting! I'm going to watch for paypyas at the market. thanks for taking the time to provide all the info.
Same here. Papayas are extremely expensive here, but it's interesting none-the-less.

We stay away from any fruits/veggies which are not grown in Canada. We try our best to stay within Atlantic Canada as well, but sometimes that just isn't possible.

Can't grow Papayas where we still have June frosts.

Hi folks, I've recently returned to BYC (after a 3 month hiatus) to find the OT thread gone. Has it been continued under another title, is this thread the replacement? Also, I know Bee was going to start her own website and write a book, any info on Bee would be greatly appreciated. WOW, I have a lot of catching up to do...anyway...Happy New Year all

ok, I'm practicing trying to load a pic (feel like an idiot, but this new chromebook just doesn't work easily for me). Can anyone see this?
SURE CAN! I need to jump off thread to post locally to re home a EE roo and 2 Silkie roo's. I feel pretty sad about it. I asked them last week to leave the girls alone. I want pure BCM chicks and these 3 boys are not listening.

I don't know anything about where Bee left after she felt she couldn't refrain from discussin her religion here - but this thread has evolved since then. Moves like lightening!

I just love looking at photo's regardless of what they are. Share, share, share!

I see your pictures too!

LM..
Your baby's are growing so fast and look so beautiful. I have not taken pictures of my kids in a while. I am waiting for some good days to get them out for more than a few minutes.

ajlynco, glad to have you aboard.. this thread was started right after the other one was closed down. It has nothing to do with Bee. It is compiled information from hundreds of wonderful people who love natural animal husbandry. We sure are glad you have found it!

I would like to share a little bit of thoughts about prolapse and hens..

Most of us have chickens for eggs and meat, and the natural experience of less chemical's in our food. This is a hereditary defect and should never be used for breeding. Pinched. wry, tail hens can have reproductive problems and egg laying problems. The structure is off and it can be difficult to allow the egg to come down the chute cleanly. The eggs get stuck, the tissue swells, the poor hen strains to remove it.

This is just my personal opinion about prolapse. Prolapse does not improve. Hen will always have this condition. Can a hen live with prolapse? yes. Many can live for a year and give you eggs for that year. It might get worse in that year .Hens might eventually get an internal infection. I seriously consider replacing hens that have prolapses and using them for soup before it happens again. Internal infection is not a good death, and than you can't eat it.

Welcome back to BYC. Unfortunately we have not heard from Bee in quite some time. Many miss her, but I'm sure we all respect her personal choice to leave BYC for what ever reasons she had. She also pulled out of the blog (which is still going strong, thanks to other wonderful and knowledge-rich people out here).

I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say I hope you will continue to be a part of this thread. We'd sure love to have you!
