The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Yay, I found a genetics book for sale on amazon, they want 1600.00 for it. I am trying to learn what i can about this genetics stuff to help with breeding. I lurk on the Silkie genetics thread a lot, as well as other heritage threads. I am SLOWLY learning it
You need to follow the right people on here. I recommend Kev and nicalandia

Both are amazing with genetics.

We had a huge wind storm here today. A large fir branch blew on top of the new hoop coop. The netted run was destroyed! The Hoop coop part made with hog panels held up great with no damage. No turkeys yet so no birds were in the run at risk. The husband will have to tear the run down and rebuild it. *gah!*

I will be gone for the weekend on a romantic getaway with my DH. Going to pick up my Catdance eggs and a White Silkie pair tomorrow that Karen has picked out and paired for me. She bathed them today! I'm so excited, I can hardly think straight! She gave me choices of cockerels and pullets from her show quality breeder pen. I chose a ten month old cockerel and a five month old pullet that will compliment him. I trust her judgement. Faced with choosing two birds out of a large flock and keeping birds straight in my head would be impossible. Picking up my chosen pair is like a blind date! I'll post pictures of my darlings as soon as possible upon returning.

Sorry to hear about the netted run... and I can't wait to see pictures of your new Silkies and hear about your visit with Catdance! What a great romantic getaway shopping spree!!

I was going say "Did you say $1600.00 DOLLARS? I may just remain unedumacated. What makes a Silkie Sizzled or Frizzled? What happened in the very beginning to cause the feathers to look like this? I don't need big details but can't imagine. I'll look up those other people to read what they say. I'm not interested in getting into breeding them but they are cute
