Today I got the girls to go into the garden, as they've picked clean any green thing that I did have in the yard (which wasn't much to begin with, we're dirt farmers here!). They had much fun in the compost pile and with the grass that is there and they thoroughly enjoyed one of my Napa cabbages and the soft dirt around it!
I expected that to happen so I wasn't too mad. I shooed them back out after that and now they're just fertilizing the dirt
I brought out *one* of the 4 week chicks to see what a) the chick thought of the great outdoors and b) what the big girls thought of it.
Well... a) it wasn't very impressed and b) they FREAKED OUT and ran into a corner to stare at the interloper (except for one who thought she'd better attack, but that was quickly tharwted by my arm).
And can anyone tell me what heat I should have for the babies right now? We've still got the megawatt bulb going but they pretty much avoid being directly under it now. They of course do not have all their feathers in yet but they're getting them and they're getting pretty big. I've got one that loves to jump up on top of the waterer, and they all roost on the little roost I have for them. It's about two inches off the ground
