The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Ooops iPhone operator error!!! Hit submit while I was trying to hit autocorrect off!!!

I did notice some black poops.... I've seen a few before but they always go back to normal. I have seen some watery mucusy poops.

I live in southern California so the girls are always outside. They don't spend much time in the coop but are confined to a run most of the time. I don't like to talk about my nice weather when you are all battling blizzards :D it was in the 80s last week and I think it has sent the mites out in full force .... I bought some neem oil. That will be my next layer of attack!!

Good info! That's another reason for soaking feed (and I put soaking and fermenting in the same category when it comes to increasing benefit).

Now I'm wondering if the study on the villi was done on raw grain feed or processed (cooked) feed.

I keep thinking of it like comparing soaking a piece of bread overnight and eating it -vs.- soaking some whole wheat berries overnight and eating them. I think the result would be quite different in nutrients you'd get for the same volume.

And, to the vet's point, a piece of soaked bread would have a volume that would make you feel full before you could eat enough of it to get the nutrients you need.
