The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

My Ron Fogel HRIR chicks hatched today--9 out of 15 eggs hatched which was pretty good with shipped eggs. They hatched a day late along with my German line New Hampshires, also 9 out of 12 shipped eggs. My black copper marans, only 3 out 18 hatched and they were local, but the breeder had placed some upside down in the carton before I picked them up. I am kind of tired of all the hatching this week, so I will try for pictures tomorrow. Congratulations to Aoxa on the chicks, Delisha on the NPIP, and nice hearing from Mumsy today. Great looking birds Leah'sMom.

Congrats!! I messed up the first one as well. The second one wasn't as quick as I'd like and every other one after that was awesome. You'll get the hang of it!
I guess I just thought you and LW were the only guys here. :)
Yes I use gimp on my Macbook Air. :) Simple download.

So cute!! I'm up to 11 now.

I can't get it to download :(((( I've got a Mac Pro. I also tried to do an OS update and failed?

I adore my Swedes!

Here's Darth 'Bator with her brood of 7... all different ages:

And the white Silkie with her brood of 3... that seem to be ALL ROOS!

And a gratuitous springtime blooming tree in the country photo...

Does anyone have black currants, red choke berry, gooseberry, rasp/blackberries, ground cherry, asparagus, ramps, rhubarb (that actually gets red and grows pretty tall), bridal wreath, honeyberry, or blueberries that they'd like to pass on????

I'd be willing to accept any of these!!!!!

Hi everyone,

After reading this WHOLE THREAD over the past few weeks and reading numerous other threads over the past 6 months, I'm finally going to get some chickens!

Made my very first trip to the feed store today (I live in inland Southern California - not too many close by). Came home with some organic feed, a waterer and a bale of shavings. It makes it so real to at least have something chicken related while wait. Have a huge shopping list to buy before they get here.

Even though it will be a small group of layer hens here in the suburbs, I'm going to get some nice started pullets shipped to me - probably next week! I'm ordering an assortment of birds to get some pretty eggs, but I love to support breeders and want to be able to know what I have - so I'm not going the hatchery route and am buying some nice stock.

I'm sure I'll have a million questions before and after they get here. Thanks so much to everyone who contributes such great advice to the thread.

You sure have come to the right place to ask questions, and good luck with your new pullets, you sound like you are going to be giving them a wonderful start!

We love pictures!
