I was going to say the same thing about if you just want them off at night, just switch it on for a minute to scare them off.
If you want them off all the time spray them w/ a water hose whenever you see them on it, they hate the water hose and will soon get the idea. My boys especially KNOW the water nozzle well and won't get w/i 10 feet of me when I have it, but that is the way I like it. When I first got chickens I was all about being friends w/ the roos as well as the hens, now I don't want my roos love I want their fear!

I love this. Can you give me the source of this photo?
I can't. LOL! One thing you could do is take a piece of welded wire fencing and cut pieces every few inches and bend the sharp edges upward. Bend the fence section to fit over the top of your unit and bungee it on. It shouldn't take the chooks long to figure out that it is uncomfortable to sit up there with all those wire ends sticking up. Just make sure none end up with cuts on their feet.
Great setup! Thanks for sharing!!
Right - like the aluminum spike gutter guards that keep birds from nesting in the gutter.......just a thought, but you know they sell those sort of prickly matts that you can put in your potted plants etc to keep your cats from digging? I wonder if you put a couple of those on top if it might just solve the whole problem.
Quote: but maybe something more decorative like a simple child's pinwheel would work to fend them off....
