The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

The blog article is awesome, as usual, Leigh. Great pictures and well told story. I love your writing!

Why thank you! My husband was teasing me about writing about the "Boom-chicka-bow-wow." I told him he got it all wrong. In farm-speak it's, "Brown-chicken-brown-cow..."

Just curious Aoxa... what size do you have?
On the Stromberg web page they have 2 sizes... one is 4" wide and one is 7"... just curious which sizes will accommodate how many birds?
I have the smaller one for 13 birds.

I've come across a farm named Quack-A-Doodle-Moo on Facebook the other day. This reminds me of that ;)

Oooooo - now I've gone and done it. I'm gonna get put up in front of a firing squad for my latest (and rather impromptu) article. I posted chicken porn! Shhh.... (Oh yeah... you know you totally want to see what I put out there!)
Scandalous!
Love the article BDM. I have no roosters and had a general idea but those pics u took with the comments made me laugh..........I do feel bad for the hens tho......lol
all different broody's out this afternoon with their lil ones. Between those 3 there are 20 chicks. Another Blue Sumatra is having her hatch today. All she let me see was a Splash sumatra chick . THIS is natural chicken keeping

BDM...the post is very timely as I was going to ask:

How many times can a rooster mate in a day? (Also put that question on the blog)
LM are you by chance an opthamologist and trying to do eye tests for us on this forum? Lol. I wear glasses for distance but even holding my mini up to my nose I still couldn't read the fine print :D and my mini wouldn't let me zoom in on it either lol I think there's a conspiracy somewhere lol :D

Hah! And the answer to the question LM asked is between 10 and 30+ times a day, depending on how many hens there are that he can "get to."

that qualifies you as an official "pornithologist"

OK... that was good!

Yes that is my dog. She is a golden retriever cross Chesapeake bay retriever. She was a rescue that was a nightmare for the first year (or two) but sure paid off in the end!

Any hints on training for the chickens? We also have a rescued 2 year old Chesapeake retriever just got him 6weeks ago.
