The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

but in all seriousness Sue, teflon is bad. It has been known for years to cause cancer. Yet most of us cook on it daily.....

While I do use plastic regularly I do want you to know I can hear you in my head telling me how bad plastic is ........

Unfortunately I can't/won't throw out perfectly good containers that I use so often. A 5 gallon pail has SO many uses.....step stool, manure transporter, etc.........and the most import use of plastic is zip ties !!!! Which I need to buy stock in lately

I agree.....and I keep thinking I need to find something that doesnt have it esp with all the scratches on mine

All this talk about incubators.... My resolve is breaking down. I have 2 egg sources waiting in the wings and no broody... Eggs s/b ready by 2nd week in June from both... i REALLY WANT A BROODY to do the work. Maybe yet.

I'm thinking of getting eggs from Stony's farm to hatch chicks that will become broody. I have to wait until I convince DH to get me a better incubator though.

You can't really avoid plastic totally. I use it quite frequently. Frankly, what doesn't cause cancer? Sunscreen causes cancer.. sun causes cancer.. makeup causes cancer..

I'm not going to worry about it too much. I will avoid using certain things excessively (like cooking in plastic or water bottles), but food comes in plastic.. Cottage cheese, yoghurt, milk, OJ.. All organic, but the packaging is not glass.

Okay smarty-pants..... I don't COOK

I don't even make chicken food in my car or on my keyboard...

(That's a pigeon, not a chicken, but you get the idea...)

(And I'm not against plastic for EVERYTHING....

lol. It reminded me of a FB page. A person claiming to have gone an entire year without using plastic. Posting digital pictures on the computer. I of course called her out on that.

you did call yourself the "plastic avoidance queen"...right? Not the "I don't cook on plastic queen "

You know... I've been thinking about Stony's eggs myself (that sounds pretty personal

okay, there, I said it before LW got a chance)
but since none of my girls are cooperating I either have to get an incubator or just wait for an "act of God".

I do have a hatchery BR that is walking around "clooking" a lot. This is not normal for her so I have been keeping an eye on her wondering if she's talking about having kids.
