The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Teenagers or toddlers.. I'd take toddlers ANY DAY of the week.

Teenagers are whiney, emotional and sassy. I was a really bad teenager, as was my brother. My poor parents :p

My oldest is nine and ALREADY starting the "fun" whiney, emotional, and sassy phase. I long for the days of a speech delayed two year old.

Chickens-Is it normal that all the other chickens are now swarming to try to get in the middle stall, where my Silkie is? It's like they know there's babies in there.

Hello all! I've been lurking and learning a lot from everyone here! Now I have a question. I have 28 chicks that are 14 weeks they've always been all together. Just yesterday several of my roosters started picking on one of my hens, I went out to close up the coop last night and she was stuck under a gate. today she won't come down from the roost at all. The boys jumped on her immediately the one time she has. I'm not sure what if anything I should do with them! I hate for her to be stuck up there all day! Thoughts?

How many roosters do you have for the 28 chicks?

They are past the helping stage too.. You have to get creative to have a preteen do chores..

Unless you have an angel child.. Which a friend of the family had all angel children.. They homeschooled. Maybe that is the key...

As for the swarming, I haven't seen it.

Lol...sadly, I do not have an angel child.
We built a gate between the chicken stall and the middle stall and all the chickens are standing at the gate, looking between the slats like they're trying to get a peek of the babies. It's odd.

It's like family members at the nursery window in the maternity ward
