The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Did I share this picture here yet?

We picked hopefully enough for the winter.. Need more... :p

Justine. really?. just kidding. looks gorgeous. strawberries aren't even ripe here yet, everything is so late this spring. um summer? I usually get a couple gallons, but this year the deer are in the stawberry beds. I'll probalby go to a u-pick place in a week or so when they are ready.

yummm! when I was little, my mom would buy these humongous flats of strawberries, make the shortbread, and we would have all the strawbery shortcake with vanilla ice cream that we could eat for sunday supper. no meal, just the strawberry shortcake. she was good at teaching us to indulge in seasonal stuff.

Bad news. I've caught up to the entire thread. :-( Now I will have to find something else to do- like laundry or dishes or some such nonsense.

Sally...I missed it...did the eggs you hatched come from your own birds or were they shipped?

My strawberries ssuffered in the rain this year..I might have gotten two pounds total and not enough to make jam. Joe is so sad..
U-Pick! Have to keep Joe happy! :)

We got them at an organic u-pick. I wish we had of started a lot more strawberries than we did. I have some that aren't even in the ground yet. They look really healthy (the plants). Next year I may get some out of them. I doubt this year though.

We filled up almost 10 gallons. After cut and washed, it was a little over 5 gallons. The chickens and goats got the strawberry tops and loved it. The chicks as well.

Quote: I'm sure the smaller number helped. I put them in my new 1588 genesis incubator and made sure there was water but not too much.My house must be dry because I had to keep adding water to the smaller sections not the long sections that circled the floor of the incubator.

The shipped eggs I received were horrible hatch rates. Both the duck eggs from ebay and the sumatra eggs from Stony. Makes me think it had to be the PO. Well with the ducks I am 100% sure it was the PO, the box had a crushed corner. With Stony's it is possible they got a touch too hot. While over half started only 1 hatched from his eggs. These that all hatched were my chicken's eggs. Nothing special really. Just cheap PRIR to sell on CL.

I need help!!! My flock was sneezing a lot tonight, not rough throats, or runny noses/eyes though. Could it be in their environment? Or do I need to treat? If it helps, it's been raining everyday, for the last TWO WEEKS. It's pretty smelly out there, not in the coops though, it's the mud/humidity. Any idea on what I need to do? They've always sneezed the odd time, but it was frequent today/ Thanks for any help!!!!
