The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

When you do a lot of posts with a lot of different people it does get lose amongst the shuffle. I noticed you replied to Camille yesterday, and she didn't get it because you had been quoting a lot of people. When you write your long posts, I really have to look to see if you responded to something I said. It would be easier if you had original quote by aoxa above for example. It is easier to find where you have spoken.

You're saying it's easier for you to read posts if I delete everything besides what I am replying to. I am telling you, it is easier for me to read your posts if you quote the person you are replying to.

Sometimes people just want to skim past what doesn't pertain to them is all.
Im tottally a skimmer XD

Justine..what do you have in the incubator?
Mine is full and I really want more Silkies
I finally had the eggs sent I won at the NYD contest..She did not send CCL's like I wanted and won. I have another bantam breed sent. I will be selling those I think.

Welcome to the thread! Great pictures! Thank you for sharing -

Wonderful photos, Aoxa!

Mumsy - sorry for the loss of your Silkie cockerel! I have one (my only crested SFH pullet) that I'm going to have to put down in the next day or so. Started with a gimpy leg, but it's not healing like I think it should. *sigh* But free ranging my flock is more important to me than trying to prevent the rare injury.

Right now: Barred Plymouth Rock, Silkies, Naked Necks and some Easter Eggers. I have some due to hatch this weekend and just set some more tonight. I had a visit with my cousin who just got into poulty, and his daughter fell in LOVE with Margaret. I mean she was so smitten. She begged to take her home and her eyes started to water when we said no.. that Margaret is a pet to us (and the only one who is right now). We promised to hatch her some of Margaret's chicks, and she is really excited. Guess that means Margaret needs a date. LOL. She wasn't too happy about it either, but two roosters mated her and she shook off after both. I separated her again, because they would ride her continuously if I didn't. I am processing the both troublemakers when I do the meaties and she will be able to have free run again (though she doesn't seem to want it).

I have a few white silkies growing out and looking good. I also have some blues and one or two blacks.

I am finding that the whites are starting out with very different down colouring. Some seem silver based and some see golden based or something.. Some are very yellow and others are kind of peachy. All turn out white.

You didn't get the breed of eggs you won? That seems silly. And you only got them NOW?! Nearly 8 months after? Wow!

Thank you :D I love it too! Heres just a few more photos taken today from my adventure strawberry picking with my mother and some of the prep. The photos are starting to get better and better :) Which is great since I just started a blog :D

Took George back to sue today & got a different hen. I am going to miss George. So gentle and so big for 3 months. Apparently his sire is giant. I sure wish I could of kept him. I loved his colors

Is anyone noticing their egg production is down when the temps & humidity is high? We had 90s last week and high humidity and I had a day with no eggs. Same thing today. I don't think I haven't not gotten an egg since they first started laying. I have so many water dishes, waterer s out so I know they have enough. And they have plenty of shade. I actually made a larger one this morning for the tots to replace the small one. The big girls don't share their tent much lol
