The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Mmmmm homemade ice cream with raw milk. To bad I only got a half gallon........ But my mom is enjoying the raw milk in her coffee :). Def going to try the buttermilk with my grandmas buttermilk bread recipe.

I also think after reading a post on FB I am only going to use homemade butter from now on. We bought some yesterday and it tasted so much better on our baked potatoes (potato from my garden) and corn bread.

I really want to start making my own....... I need to win the lottery so I have more time to do all these things :D I will be looking for someone with raw milk near me even if it means driving to the Amish south of us :)

On a chicken note the girls are sieving just fine on one feeding at night while I am gone. Maybe by the time I get home they won't yell at me as much lol

I know hes a drake but I was told the other one is a proven male? and the white one is a young hen. crappy photo but here she is. You dont see much of the start of her crest.
There is no drake curl on your 'proven' male. If it was a drake, it would be quite young, so I very much doubt proven. What does it's voice sound like?

The female is very loud. The male does quack but I find it sounds a bit raspier like my male(Whom im thinking might not be a pure runner. he looks really big and round to be pure. I know you said some of the runner eggs had a chance to be mixes. He looked pure runner as a baby but now he looks more like rouen-ish in body or pekin. He looks just like my other two. no tall lanky runner look

Raw milk used to start FF.

I am not sure how it would work with a batch started with ACV

.Raw milk put on top of the FF... you already have . It might turn into buttermilk really fast..lol The chickens would probably love it.

So I got the prelim report from UC Davis on my GLW tonight!! Talk about FAST I dropped her off on Thursday! Of course all of the tissue is out for tests and usually takes a month .... I do not know how I can last a month as the prelim report is disturbing ... It says that she was severely obese said there were large accumulation of fat around the internal organs as well as the abdominal wall. That part is fine ... she loved to gobble up the treats but got very thin when broody so its probably my fault trying to fatten her back up ... live & learn... the part that I am worried about is they found that both of her lungs were markedly hemorrhagic .... Of course I goggled that and the various disease that cause the lungs to hemorrhage are AWFUL .... I am going to be so worried about all of my girls until I find out what she had ....
