The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Aoxa - not sure if I missed the answer to this. Do you put your water bowls right on the floor or do you raise them up on something? Do you use the 1 quart or 5 quart size?
What water bowls are we talking about? The ones in the pen? I use the small ones. I raise them up on scrap blocks of wood.

first one makes me think of bellying up to the bar! and I love the spaciousness of your barn. And, where is the poop? looks incredibly clean~
They are turning up the litter in the picture. I think we just added shavings a few days prior. There is poop everywhere, trust me LOL

Do you do anything to keep them from ending up stepping in them? I'm having visions of Margaret and in small quarters sometimes birds end up in places they had no intention of going when others are harassing them

I have no way to prevent them from stepping in it. Just hoping for the best with what I've got. Out of 150 birds last winter, she was the only one that did that. She was always a little different :p

Oh..and would you remind me of where you got the green trough feeders?
From Stromenberg I believe. I found this one on amazon not too long ago, and would probably choose it because it has free shipping, and can handle a lot more birds.

Heh. You're telling me. I think there's one in every flock that's the chicken equivalent of 'Moon Moon' the wolf.

I've got a barred hen that's about as...er....derpy as they come. I found her hiding in a cardboard box about 6" x 6" x 8"...

Okay, so I see a pink-ish brown one by that top green one, just like the one I got yesterday.
And you're saying that the two lightest ones (top right and middle left) are from your bantam Cochin, so about how much smaller are they than the Comet eggs? I'm trying to figure out whether my Bantam Cochin is laying at all yet.
That was the reason for all this.

Ok... the left is a pinkish Comet egg, middle is a cream Bantam Cochin, and last is a tiny fart egg....Not sure who it came from?

Here are 4 comet eggs, and the top left is the Bantam Cochin.

I won't be getting any more Cochin eggs until the chicks get older because something got my hen a few weeks ago....

And here is a picture of all the eggs in my refrigerator from 11/22 until now.....

Wow. How many laying?

7 Golden Comets and 1 Easter Egger laying at the moment...

I have 3 more EE's who are molting, and a younger pullet that should start either this month or next....

I also have 2 BCM chicks and 2 Buff Cochin chicks that were hatched in Sept. So when everyone is old enough to lay, I will have 16 laying.
