Stella is still hopping the fence back & forth. Now it seems she does it when she sees me come out but when I go back in the house she flies into her run. Everyone has to have a brat chicken. Stella is mine

Freezing rain & snow starting up again. I would be happy for a couple inches to cover the grass for Christmas. I don't like seeing green grass this time of year. And the mud is not helping me keep the floors clean with the dogs.
I've been trying to figure out what to use as a dusting pan - so is that a disposable aluminun roaster like you see in the grocery stores? I've been using an old dresser drawer but after all these years it has bitten the dust and has fallen apart.

Y'all that are processing your own birds, be proud! I just read one of my old friend's blog post's and she quoted this article about half of supermarket chickens harboring superbugs: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...ocialflow&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=tweet

Made me glad I don't get mine from the supermarket...I know where mine come from even if I didn't raise them. Maybe next year...

Oh, Wow!!!
Thanks for sharing this!!!
I emailed the link to DH.
And we're working on not having to buy chicken from the store anymore too!
I think we're already there on eggs, I think.

Yes it is from the Dollar Store. I was using a litter box but I stepped on it when the temps were below freezing and it cracked. I had a cardboard box in there with ashes but they didn't go in there. So I was trying to find something cheap till I get another litter box.

ETA: I thought maybe having the roaster pan in there would convince them they best start laying soon

Leah's mom, I love the baby chicks dustbathing with mom. The plastic tote looks like it would work, I'm just trying to spend less....
AFL, wonder why they wouldn't use the cardboard box. I think I could find one about the sizeof leahsmom's plastic tub...could cut down the sides maybe.

Looks like you have peat moss in there, that would help the extend the wood ashes

Its probably was because the sides were to high. I didn't bother cutting the sides down since it wouldn't of held up long in the coop with all the rain we had.
I have some of those plastic boxes also they are just to long for the coop. I do add peat moss to the ashes but I just dumped the peat moss into the DL.
I don't have a shortage of wood ashes though since I heat with wood
