The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Lol

@TeaChick

Les Miserables is a great movie. :)

DH and I started watching it, but we couldn't finish b/c DS had kept me up a lot the night before and I was falling asleep.
I'll have to remind him that we want to watch it next time there's nothing on TV.
....
Just to stay on topic....
there's no way to get that on topic.
Sorry. =)

It is -6 right now with a -25 wind chill. I have my flock of 5 tucked away in their little coop, but I am still a nervous wreck! They are going to be ok right??? This is my first winter with chickens and these temperatures are pretty low for Missouri this time of year.

I had no idea it could get that cold in Missouri! They should be fine if out of the wind. If you are really nervous, go out and stick your fingers under their feathers and you'll feel how cozy they are. Its been below zero for weeks here, and there are chickens in Alaska and northern canada and they do fine. Its gonna be about -20 tonite here, and I can't even think about the windchill.

I doesn't get this cold very often. I do have their coop up against a shed on the north side. I have been having to scoot them out of the nest boxes that last few nights. All 5 of them try to cram into one box. I am guessing it is warmer than roosting. Thanks for the encouragement. I have been reading this thread daily for months now and I know lots of people have chickens in much colder weather, but I can't help but worry about them.
