The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Aoxa - what, if anything, have you done about your boy that got the frostbite on his feet staying in the tree?
Nothing at all. It was just the very tips of his toes. He will probably lose his nails. It's been so warm lately, and Susan's been doing chores. I haven't even remembered to check on him. I did see him out this morning when I opened the doors.. He's walking without issue at least. His comb is pretty bad, but he seems unfazed.

I'll have to check him out now that you reminded me.

My wry neck girl is doing very well though :)

That sunflower makes me think spring :D

Leah's mom why am I not surprised your BR is front and center next to the suet. That's exactly where Stella would be also :D

Stella sees me coming onto the deck and starts for the gate. Today she jumped over with me 5 ft away and the dogs out. Thankfully when bear saw her he headed her way but he was a good distance away & actually listened to me when I told him to get on the deck. I told her that her new name is going to be SNACK if she doesn't stop hopping he gate when the dogs are out. Thankfully she only does it when she sees me outside with food in my hand.

All the kiddos got outside with some home-made suet today. These have a mix of rendered suet mixed with lard and coconut oil. Then added BOSS, Cayenne Flakes, Some whole organic corn and barley. Some of them got some garlic too.

The "iron" fence is dividing off the place for the younger ones to go to get away from the olders if they want to. I put the suet cages along it and they can reach it from both sides.

I love your treat holder!! How lovely. Where did you find that?

Does anyone have BCMarans? I have 2 pullets and was wondering when to expect them to start laying..... I know it is probably going to be a bit longer because they are still very pale and don't have much of a comb at all....
