Does anyone have BCMarans?  I have 2 pullets and was wondering when to expect them to start laying..... I know it is probably going to be a bit longer because they are still very pale and don't have much of a comb at all....

My girl didn't start laying till 28 weeks. She laid about 6 eggs and went on winter hiatus. I hope she makes up for lost time when she starts laying again :D

Believe it or not my BCM were 35 weeks before I got an egg. One just started a few weeks ago. then a few days later the others followed her lead. In this cold they only lays 2, maybe 3 eggs a week. I do not put artificial lighting in their coop. Cant wait for Spring....

ok well, the blue egg gene colors the shell all the way thru... my ee's are blue inside and out. can't say for Ameraucana or araucana, since I have no purebreds... most of my eggs are more blue than green too, since they've been crossed with white egg layers in the past.

a brown egg will be white inside, the brown is colored after the shell forms, the blue tint is intrinsic to the shell itself. so a green egg will be light blue inside and the green only outside (from the brown pigment over the blue egg)

and sorry if this has already been said, i'm missing 10 pages and no time to catch up tonight... happens more often than not lately it seems LOL

I want to grow some plants for my chickens but i don't know what

veggies, herbs ~ garlic is a favorite one on this thread, berry bushes ~ red raspberry leaves make for a healthy tea for humans so double benefits, apples are controversial but my chickens love them, cabbage, pumpkins, red clover, alfalfa, dandelions, peas, corn, sunflowers,... I know there are lots more too these are just the ones I remember being posted about.
