I butchered out 5 young cockerels today in a snow storm. They were breeding everything in sight and I need to keep the young girls in condition and tore up by randy males. I hatched out 6 Orpingtons in late fall and they were all boy. 17 weeks old and 5lbs average. These are my first English Orpingtons I will be eating.

Oh no, more snow? Yuck.. I hate butchering in the cold too.. :/ curious how they will taste!

Yes..I love that Rock type...such good egg layers..It is the foundation I used to breed to my cornish crosses..great meats bird combo

Are my chickens out of their minds? Bought two things of dried mealworms and they were not impressed. I even tried to hydrate them to make them a little more appetizing (it said so on the container). Won't be buying those again...

wow that is weird! Around here mealworms are known as chicken crack! I get the Happy Hen Treats. I never looked to see where they are from; they are the only ones available here

I dug in the garden today, starting to get it ready so the girls all had quite a feast on dug up worms and grub, oh and the occasional spider and cricket.




When they went to roost tonight they couldn't have got a drop of water in their crops if they wanted to!!!!!

I would love to able to turn the garden so that girls could enjoy it. Unfortunately I seem to have 8" of this white stuff on the top of the garden........and its frozen solid
