The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Yeah, I'll just give up and look for my name if there are a billion posts since the last time I was on here. Sorry.

I just got a dozen chicks!!! A friend of mine set 18 eggs for me (and my DS; I'm giving him some b/c I cooked some I was trying to hatch for him).

I set 18 of my Comet eggs (well, 14 comet and 4 Leghorn to fill in); anyway, I locked down 8 (one was Leghorn) and this morning was day 21 and nothing is happening. How long do you give it before you give up?

I lost a dozen other Leghorn eggs to a faulty thermometer. I didn't know until I put them both in the same incubator.

And I got rid of my mean hen. Sandy has a new home and is (or will soon be) being put in her place.
Everything has been so much more peaceful with the other chickens since I removed her from the flock Monday night.

I have mostly Wyandotte roos (one's half GLW and the other is purebred SLW); I'm really looking for hens (pullets/chicks, nothing that's already laying).
No, I don't really need another roo. =(
I hope you find a good home for him. If not, then please let me know; I'm very interested in Wayndottes and I think the Black-Laced Reds are beautiful!!!
I'll keep you in mind. I forgot to get pictures today or yesterday.

I won't cull him at this point because i only have 2 chicks in my brooder and that would leave a lone chick..I am not feeding the medicated feed ,i will try the liver or vitamins..He is doing well with his little sandel and I taped his legs with vet wrap like spradle leg ..he is a very strong little guy it hasn"t slowed him down a bit..
I have one I couldn't fix. It's a little silkie who is now going on 4.5 weeks. She is a tad smaller than the rest, but scratches, dustbathes and gets around. I won't breed her. I'm going to find her a nice pet home and give her away. She is adorable, and I know someone can love her. As long as your chick is not in pain, don't feel to bad about not culling. I can see why people do... and I do if I see that the chick cannot get around with the others, but some can do just fine with little quirks.

Quote: ROFL we have power tools as well as some air tools and an air compressor... they're all MINE! got a chop saw, skil saw, cordless skil saw, table saw, 2 different cordless drills, the air compressor and pneumatic toe nailer, framing nailer, finish nailer, crown stapler and cutoff tool... the 4 things I use the most are the chop saw (for 1x2, 2x4, etc), the cordless circular saw (for cutting plywood), the cordless drill (screwdriver) and the crown stapler (for hanging wire).

Kassaundra your Okie Ice pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Thank you. I am not a cold lover so nearly froze to death, and the dark ice pics were even colder to get!!! lol I got rewarded by my husband making me a cup of hot coffee w/ whipped cream when I came inside to help re-warm me.

Sexing help needed!

3 Silkies and a MaransxEE (I think):

All the tools at my house are mine also. Hand me downs but some I bought new. I will try anything once unless it involves electricity
