The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Here's my big ex-pen top. I also have one that covers 1/2 an ex-pen. Ex-pens come in several different heights. They can have doors or not. The one's with doors are more expensive and I don't think are really necessary. I have one of each. I have a 24", without a door and a 48" with.

This is a trigger snap.
Do you know where I can get these?

Okay - give us a little tutorial. What is the difference between the root kind and the seed kind? Are they both a natural plant? Are they both perennial? To what zone?
The bocking varieties (there are 2) have sterile seeds. Considered non invasive, but are almost impossible to remove from an area they are established in b/c the smallest piece of root will grow a new plant. The old fashioned is considered very invasive and spreads from roots and seeds. Yes both are perennial.

You can't usually find ex-pen tops at places like Petsmart, but you might look. I ordered mine. Can't remember where. Try PetEdge, Dog.com, Ryan's Pet Supply or maybe King Wholesale. Maybe you can just google it. One thing you could do, although it would be heavier, is use a piece of horse panel or similar. You could hinge it with the same clips they use on the pen. I don't know what those are called, but I've seen them at hardware stores.

getting excited about the broody. She actually drank water today and ate maybe a quarter of a tsp of feed. Hatching date is...thurs? have to check the calendar. I'm scared to go to work and miss it.
