The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Regarding the mite problem I posted about-- thanks for all the replies! Things have gotten complicated because the hatch happened earlier than I anticipated-- last night and this morning. Now, we're going to wait until the hatch is definitely over, and move them all to a different coop, one with woodash, DE, and fresh bedding. Then treat the heck out of the little broody house they're in right now.

oh well and may have been a predator but I doubt it...to take all 15, we have a pen with a locking door ( not sure hubby locked them in or not they were all in a food coma the last time i seen them)and since they are lazy meaties just attached fenced no top, we move it for poop control and smell control, and we had big meaties until a couple weeks ago and nothing bothered them and they never went inside after it go about 50 out...just weird i guess because it was all of them with no traces...I guess what is the worst I hate brooding meaties.. and this batch i was trading with someone for drywall finishing work..I guess i will have to order some i doubt any store still has them ..

Here's some pics of Tina and her chicks...these were taken thru a chicken wire pen
The two yellow ones are Blue Partridge Brahmas and the three little chipmunks are Wyandottes....Sorry about all the pics but we are kinda tickled with the little buggers.
do you have any idea of the wyandottes are blr or gold laced?

I also would advise filing a police report, although there's probably nothing they can do about it.

I'm thinking the person who stole your birds was hungry. At least I'm hoping so. That would in some small manner excuse it a bit. And times are very hard right now in some places. I know our eggs feed at least three families.
